Demetrios Bowean, who was affectionately known as ‘I2,’ of Knoxville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 12, 2026. He was 47 and a proud self-employed entrepreneur.

I2 was born in Queens, New York, and attended Malcolm X Day Care Center, P.S. 148, P.S. 135, and P.S. 127 before he moved to Knoxville to live under the loving care of his grandmother, Laura Norwood Bowean. In Knoxville, he attended Vine Middle School and Halls High School. For a time he worked as a laborer at Leisure Pools USA Trading.

I2 enjoyed writing rap lyrics and listening to hip-hop music. He was athletic and loved to work out. He especially enjoyed both watching and participating in boxing scrimmages and fights. He was an avid hoplophile and collector. He reveled in being a Capricorn; dressing well; and being a native New Yorker with a deep knowledge of all the boroughs. But most of all, he loved his family and his friends and enjoyed being in their presence, cracking jokes and laughing. I2 had a strong sense of determination; he demanded respect and he insisted on living independently and being self-reliant.

Besides his grandmother, he is preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Bowean; his father, David ‘Cowboy’ Johnson; a sister, Rashida and brother, Isaiah. He will also greet in heaven his beloved aunt, Eather Mae Bowean, who raised him during his teenage years; and his brother\cousin, Ronald ‘Popo’ Bowean.

He is survived by his two younger brothers: Yusef ‘Spanky’ Bowean and Julius ‘Doc’ Bowean, his sister\cousin, Lolly Bowean and his niece Giavanna Serene Bowean.

I2’s family will receive friends from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, Feb. 24th at Unity Mortuary at 1425 McCalla Avenue in Knoxville.

A graveside funeral ceremony and burial will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 24th at 3 pm at the Hartland Memorial Park Cemetery at 3646 Piney Road in Morganton, North Carolina.
