Obituary For Dennis Lowery, Sr

Dennis “Bud” Lowery, Sr.

Dennis “Bud” Lowery Sr. was born on December 29, 1939, and went home to be with our Lord and Savior, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories.

Dennis was a man of the Baptist faith. He attended Austin High School, graduating with the Class of 1957, and later attended the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, Connecticut.

For 17 years, Dennis shared his culinary talents as an accomplished chef at the University of Tennessee, Cherokee Country Club, Ivanhoe House of Beef, and Holston Hills Country Club. During the latter years of his career, he worked in transportation with Knoxville Area Transit, where he faithfully served until retiring in March 2003 as Director of Operations.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Mildred Lowery; his grandmother, Moma Lowery; his great-grandmother; his sister, Bonnie Shelton Ross; and several beloved aunts and uncles.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Dennis Lowery Jr. and Darryl Lowery and his wife, Velencia; his brother, Allan D. Lowery of Dalton, Illinois; and his beloved grandchildren, Shaunetta, Dennis III, Nichole Lowery Moore, Joslyn Lowery, Adrian Omar Wilson and Joshua Lewis.

He also leaves his longtime “friends forever,” Barbara Engel and Trever Ferguson, along with a host of extended relatives and friends, including his great-grandchildren and nephews. They will carry his memory in their hearts and remember the love and joy he brought into their lives.

Dennis will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his many accomplishments, his love for his family, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family of Dennis “Bud” Lowery Sr. extends heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation to his dedicated nurses, Beauty, RN, and Cynthia Thomas, LPN, for the compassionate care and kindness they showed Dennis.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Tennova North and Gentiva Hospice for the care, comfort, and support they provided during his time of need.

A special expression of gratitude is extended to Pastor Darryl Jacks and the church family of Resurrected Reformed Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for their prayers, spiritual support, love, and encouragement during this difficult time.

To our family and friends, thank you for every prayer, phone call, visit, kind word, expression of love, and act of support. Your thoughtfulness has brought us strength and comfort, and we are deeply grateful. May God richly bless each of you for the love and kindness you have shown our family.

Funeral Services will be as follows:

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 11a-12p with the Celebration of Life Service to begin at 12 noon at the Unity Mortuary chapel.

The final resting place will be at the New Grey Cemetery immediately following the service. A dove release will conclude in his honor.
