Dorothy Mae Dozier-Chapman

Dorothy Mae Dozier-Chapman (“Doosie”) was born on January 14, 1931, in Knoxville, Tennessee. She received her education through the Knox County School System. A faithful and devoted church member, she attended East Vine Avenue Christian Church/Bentley Street, where she joyfully sang in the choir. In 1970, she relocated to Roanoke, Virginia, and became a member of High Street Baptist Church, continuing her love of music by serving in the choir. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Community Hospital for 20 years before retiring in 1996. In 2016, she returned to Knoxville, Tennessee, where she joined CEC.

Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of strong values, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family. As the matriarch of the Chapman family, she nurtured generations with strength, compassion, and wisdom. She raised her children with dignity and purpose, instilling values that will continue for years to come.

Dorothy was called home to glory on Tuesday, May 12, surrounded by family at Beverly Park Place Health and Rehabilitation after a 10-year residency. She was preceded in death by parents Joe and Pearl Dozier; two sisters; three brothers; grandson, Clyde Crowder, Jr; son-in-law, Clyde Crowder, Sr; a host of Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins – she was the last surviving member of the Stone Family; daughter, Charlene Chapman; sons, Jimmy Chapman, Larry Chapman; twins, Chris Selena Chapman Crowder and Christopher “Chad” Chapman, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories son, Herman Chapman, Roanoke, VA; daughters, Apostle Linda (Roswill) Hayes, Charlotte, NC; Christine Brown, Mary (Albert) Workman of Knoxville, TN, Dorothy (Carlton) Simpson, Roanoke, VA; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 37 great-great grandchildren; Host of Dozier, Hemphill, Taylor, Kennedy, Davenport, Truesdale, Gordon, and Thomas families.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 1-1:30 p.m. with the Celebration of Life Service to begin at 1:30 p.m. at Community Evangelistic Church (CEC) where Pastor Reginald Strong is Pastor and Rev. Ben Hemphill will be officiating.

The final resting place will be held at the Mt. Olive Cemetery immediately following the service. A dove release will conclude in her honor.
