Frederick Wayne Greene
Frederick Wayne Greene (Fred), 86, passed away peacefully at Pinnacle Assisted Living on March 1, 2026. Frederick was born on May 14, 1939, in Marion Junction, Alabama. As a young child, he moved to Knoxville, where he attended Austin High School. During his time there, he was a member of the basketball team and graduated with the class of 1957.
In 1962, Frederick married Charlotte Patton. They shared 46 years of marriage until Charlotte’s passing in 2009. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Carmen Denese and the late Casandra Dyanne.
Frederick dedicated 29 years of service to United Parcel Service (UPS). He spent the first 10 years delivering packages primarily in the Fountain City area before transferring to the feeder unit, where he worked for 19 years until his retirement. Known for his gentle spirit and warm smile, his coworkers affectionately called him the “Jolly Greene Giant.” Frederick enjoyed 29 years of retirement from UPS.
Frederick was a lifelong member of Rogers Memorial Baptist Church. He served as a trustee and usher for over forty years. An avid bowler, he participated in several church and city leagues throughout his life.
Frederick was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte, daughter Casandra, mother Gert Dorsey, brother-in-law Charles Patton, sister-in-law Barbara Moore, and nephew Christon Patton. He is survived by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Carmen Denese Greene (Ross Thomas, Jr.); his grandchildren, Casandra Delaney Thomas of Durham, NC, and Ross David Thomas III of Sterling Heights, MI; sisters Irma Vaughn of Knoxville, TN, and Barbara (Ted) Evans of Norwalk, CT; brother Clyde Dorsey of Philadelphia, PA; sisters-in-law Jamesena (John) Watson and Patricia (James) Berry of Knoxville, TN, and Shirley Patton of Westchester, IL; brother-in-law Dr. Eddie Moore, Sr. of San Jose, CA; and a host of nieces and nephews, friends and family.
The Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Rogers Baptist Church, 520 College St, Knoxville, TN 37921, at 1:00 p.m. where Rev. Dr. Raymond L. Chandler is Pastor, Rev. A.D. Baxter officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30–1:00 PM.
Entombment will take place at 3:00 PM at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Hwy, Alcoa, TN 37701. Immediately following the service. A dove release will conclude in his honor.

My sympathies to Fred's family on your loss. I worked with him at UPS for many years. He was a good guy, always had a smile and an easy laugh. I know he will be greatly missed.
