Gwendolyn Pirtle Rivers
Gwendolyn Pirtle Rivers, 77, departed this life on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024 in Knoxville, TN where she was born, raised and developed countless friendships.
Gwen was a dedicated employee of Tennessee Valley Authority and she served in the Army National Guard where she retired after 25 years and 21 years of service, respectively. She is survived by her only child, Steffanie Rivers, her brother, Rudolph Pirtle, her sister-in-law Belinda C. Pirtle, eight first-cousins, eight nieces and nephews, twelve grand-nieces and grand-nephews, devoted friend, Bobby Brandon, Sr., and countless lifelong friends she has had since graduating from old Austin High School in 1965.
A celebration of Gwen’s life will be held at Payne Ave Missionary Baptist Church, Thursday, Oct.10th, with the visitation from 11 a.m. until 12 noon with the Celebration of Life Service to begin at Noon.
The final resting place will be held at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (John Sevier) immediately. following the service where military honors and dove release will conclude in her honor.
