Towana Mae Cates
Ms. Towana Mae Cates was born January 4, 1960 in Knoxville, TN at UT Hospital to the late Mary Ellen Cates and Ransom Kenneth Chandler, she went home to be with the Lord our God on January 4, 2024.
She is proceeded in death by brother Samuel Anthony Cates, sister Robin Cates, brother Victor Mature Cates, grandparents Elizabeth Upshaw, Frank Upshaw, Gustavia Chandler and Ransom Charles Chandler.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted children whom loved their momma with a love that was absolutely unconditional and wholeheartedly, her son Cumecus R. Cates, Sr. son Elipous R. Cates and her daughter Valtrella Shanail Cates her siblings brothers Gerine Cates, Stephon Cates, Christopher Marcelle Cates, Dennis Cannon, her sisters Yevette Cates Chandler, Rochelle Chandler Phillips, Miracle Chandler, Abigail Chandler. And a devoted sister Laura Williamson she had 10 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren, whom she adored.
Ms. Towana Cates attended Young High School, she fought a 34-year courageous battle against having โmultiple sclerosisโ she was vibrant, energetic, live! in spite of being wheelchair bound for 34 years! She was compassionate, kind, sweet and the matriarch of her family! She believed that every human being has a purpose, she was simply known as Momma Cates to her city of Knoxville, she believed in the good inside of people! she will be beyond missed. She was a strong believer in God. She went home to the Lord on her birthday we love you always Momma Cates.
The viewing and the receiving of family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 1-2p.m. with the Celebration of Life Service to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Unity Mortuary Chapel.
