Obituary For Mrs. Constance Robinson Stinson

Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home, Inc. announces with the deepest sympathy, the demise of Constance Robinson Stinson, formerly of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on January 12, 2021.

She was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada September 3, 1929, to Theodore and Eliza Robinson. She graduated from Boggs Academy, a PCUSA missionary school in Burke County Georgia, and Barber-Scotia College. She married the late Dr. Harold N. Stinson, Sr. and became a teacher in Gough Georgia from the late 1940s to the mid-1960s. When Her husband became president of Stillman College in 1967, she became first lady. During the mid-1970s, she developed an interest in reality, and with the aid of broker the late Elon Miller, she became the first African American realtor in Tuscaloosa. She continued in practice until 2007 when she moved to Grand Rapids to help her only child, Dr. Harold N. Stinson, Jr., whose wife become ill. She is survived by her son, other relatives, and friends. Graveside services will be held on January 19, 2021, at Eleven o'clock a.m. at Memory Hill Garden with Rev. Joe Scrivner, Minister. Stillman College, a Presbyterian HBCU, was founded in 1876 My father, Dr. Harold N. Stinson, Sr., was the 3rd & 1st African American President (1967-1980). The science building is named after him and a section of another building is dedicated to my mother, Constance R. Stinson. Donations can be made over the web site.
