Mrs. Cherry Jeanne Frierson Morgan, 65, of Sunderland, MD, peacefully entered eternal rest on June 9, 2025. She was born on July 3, 1959, in Florence, SC, to James Melton and Annie Mae Frierson.

Affectionately known by her family as Jenine, Cherry grew up in Washington, D.C., attending Myers Elementary, B.K. Bruce Elementary, and Banneker Jr. High before graduating from Rolling Crest Middle. She went on to graduate from Cardozo Sr. High School in 1977. After high school, she briefly attended the University of Maryland.

As a child, she enjoyed camping, fishing, and crabbing with her family, traveling across the country, and spending summers visiting her birthplace in South Carolina. As a young violinist she made first chair in the D.C. Youth Orchestra. She participated in a High School pageant, Cardozo’s art program, and many other school activities. Additionally, she was accepted into the Marion Barry Youth program where she worked several summer jobs.

Cherry was baptized on May 25, 1975, at Trinity AME Zion Church in Washington, DC, where she found great joy in worship and expressed her love for the Lord through singing in the choir. She later became a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church in Capitol Heights, MD, where she faithfully served as an usher. After moving to Sunderland, she joined Corner Stone Baptist Church in Owings, MD. Her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life, influencing her deep commitment as a daughter, sister, wife, guardian, and friend. It guided her every action with love, strength, and purpose.

She built a dedicated career with Eastman Kodak until the company transitioned to Danka, where she briefly continued her work in Baltimore. Eventually, she embraced a new chapter at the University of Maryland, where she retired after 26 years of service, leaving behind a legacy of diligence, commitment, and excellence in all she pursued. Throughout her career, she remained committed to growth, taking several courses to expand her knowledge, including web design, which allowed her to explore creativity and innovation in new ways.

On April 26, 1985, she married Randolph Morgan, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 40 years. Their early years in Temple Hills, MD, were filled with cherished family cookouts and gatherings, creating lasting memories. They later moved to Mitchellville, where they shared their home with their beloved dog, Sic-a-poo. Eventually, they settled in Sunderland, MD, embracing a life of simplicity and joy—raising chickens, cultivating fresh produce, and nurturing the land they loved. In 2020, they took on the treasured role of guardians to Zion and Mya, offering them love, guidance, and unwavering support, a testament to her ever-giving heart.

Cherry was a courageous and passionate woman whose golden heart touched the lives of many. Generous and always ready to lend a helping hand, she warmly welcomed family and friends into her home, where lasting memories were made through her kindness and hospitality. She had a deep love for food—especially desserts—and an adventurous spirit that drew her to explore new places and savor the beauty of life’s many journeys.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her devoted husband, Randy. Her legacy of love and compassion lives on through Zion and Mya, as well as her treasured sisters—Charlene Clark, Verna Leiner, and Jamie Melton-Whelen—and her beloved brother, Ivory Brown. She is also lovingly remembered by her uncles, Ivory Frierson and James Melton, Jr.; her aunt, Dorothy Powell; four sisters-in-law—Betty Robbins, Marie Green, Patricia Morgan-Walters, and Geraldine Capehart—and eight brothers-in-law—Elijah, Isaiah, Hezekiah, Paul, John, Joseph, Nepton, and Nehemiah Morgan. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity left a lasting impression on her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit continues to live on in the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
