“May the Work I've Done Speak for Me…”
Suffragan Bishop Alfred Grant was born May 3, 1946 to the late Samuel Grant, Sr. and Wilhelmina Grant. August 21, 1977, Pastor Alfred Grant received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and water baptism in the Name of Jesus at World Evangelism United Pentecostal Church under the pastorate of W. L. Clayton, Sr. It was during a prayer shift with Bro. Marvin that God gave him the Call to feed His sheep. Later, he and his family moved their membership to Cooper’s Chapel under the leadership of Pastor Ella Bell Cooper.
In 1982, then Minister Alfred Grant and a group named the Prayer Band purchased an old store and two acres of land at 3254 Maybank Highway. It was during this time the Lord gave Minister Grant the name, Book of Acts Church. The old store was transformed into a sanctuary, baptismal pool, bathrooms, office space and kitchen. February 1983, Pastor Grant preached his first sermon at the new location.
June 1983, during the Carolina State Council (CSC) session he, along with the Book of Acts officially became affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. (PAW). In 1984, Pastor Grant received ordination as Elder of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. by the late Bishop Paul Bowers. In 1990, Pastor Grant was appointed as Assistant Treasurer for the Sunday School Department of the Carolina State Council.
In 1994, he was appointed as Chairman of the License and Credential Committee and in 1997, one of the District Elders of Region 5 Ocean View District. In 1995, under Pastor Grant’s vision, the church was expanded to include an educational wing which consists of three classrooms, a pastor’s office, fellowship hall, nursery and two bathrooms. The new expansion was completed in 1998. A van was also purchased. In 1998, Pastor Grant was elevated to District Elder of the Carolina State Council by Bishop Richard E. Young.
In 2001, he was elected as Vice Chairman of the Carolina State Council. In 2006, Pastor Grant was elevated to Suffragan Bishop of the newly formed 58th Episcopal District of the North Carolina State Council Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. by the late Bishop Edward C. Roberts. In 2007, Pastor Grant received a degree from Alpha and Omega Bible College, N. Charleston, SC. In 2016, under his direction and leadership, the church mortgage was paid off.
Due to health issues, Pastor Grant retired as Director of Region 7 of the NCSC and pastor after many years of dedicated service in 2022.
