Samuel Arthur Duncan, 78, Kansas City, MO, passed away on May 17, 2015, at his home. Sam was born on October 28, 1936, to Earnest and Odessa Duncan.
He served in the United States Army before graduating from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, after which he later served as the President of its Kansas City Alumni Chapter for many years.
His business, Sam Duncan Insurance was his passion. However, from 1963 until his retirement last year from the City of Kansas City Parks & Recreation Department, he held positions at the YMCA, Western & Southern Life Insurance Co., Los Angeles, CA (1968-1975) and the Kansas City, Missouri School District. Sam was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
He positively impacted the lives of many and will never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a son, Samuel Boyea Duncan, April 7, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Shirley with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage on April 20. Additional survivors include: Children – Barbara Duncan Ray (Frederick), Anita Marcel Autrey (Robert), Daryl Eugene Duncan (Sherese), and Mishele Terese Duncan (Anthwon). Grandchildren - Seantia "Tia" Duncan Phillips, Kaleb Boyea Tolefree and Kaden Marcel Tolefree. Siblings – Betty Jean Bruner, Earnest Eugene "Uncle Peanut" Duncan, Ray Arthur "Uncle Bug" Duncan, Dwight Pankey and Penny Ceaser Grant and a host of nieces and nephews too numerous to list.
Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2015, at Watkins Heritage Chapel, 4000 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64130.
