Obituary For Bobby Moses John Greene

Deacon Bobby Moses (John) Greene was born to the late Johnny and Eutha Greene on July 23, 1937. He joined his Heavenly Father on July 16, 2021.

There was so much in between his birth and his last breath. Our family will give you a glimpse of some aspects of his life…only snippets because life encompasses so many things: the establishment of his own family, gains and losses, pain and happiness, grief and expressions of joy, tribulation and moments on the mountain top.

His spiritual roots began at the Moore’s Chapel Baptist Church in Greensboro, Georgia under the leadership of Rev. C. C. Neal. He was also a former member of the “Free and Accepted Prince Hall Masonic Lodge”, #223.

Leaving Home - He joined the United States Army Reserves in June, 1953 and served until August 1957, departing at the rank of Corporal.

Returning Home – Recognizing the military life was not one fashioned for him, he answered the call to entrepreneurship by starting Greene Logging in 1958 and steered it faithfully until his call Home.

Let’s look at the Family he gained and witnessed transitioning in this life -

He married Gennie B. Greene on August 5, 1958, with whom five children were born: Johnny (Brenda), Lisa, Gail, Steve (Wanda), and Mark. He also had three daughters added to the family: Derome (Porter) Jordan, Louise (MacArthur) Nesbitt, and Vivien Russell.

Sisters and brothers who preceded him in death: Thomas Moore, William (Sambo) Moore, Robert (Bob) Moore, Lena Lawrence, Johnnie Mae Martin, Polly Rankin, Elease Greene, Eloise Greene Binion, and Clara Nell Lawrence. Living brothers and sisters include: James (Meme) Greene, Gladys Moore, Fannie Smith, Clarence Waller, Mary Callaway, Patricia Mapp, and Linda Greene.

Currently he has 20 grandchildren; two preceded him in death, and 26 great-grandchildren. There are a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that make-up the family.

His favorite color: Black

His favorite song: “Near the Cross”

What He Loved – He loved to give nicknames to people and many times unbeknownst to the person he was naming. He had a quick wit about him which required you to be on point! For example, we had many cats that reminded him of people he knew and he was always accurate, at least in his and our opinions! It wasn’t just cats! There are turtles, foxes, and cute puppies, that reminded him of family and friends, but I’d rather not say who they are, but it was always in good humor and just to make us laugh.

He also loved reading his Bible many times before breakfast, gardening (mostly turnips), sitting on the porch, reminiscing about the old times, watching church CDs (particularly “the Talking Turtle,” taking care of his cows, baling hay, tinkering with tractors, work equipment, repairing parts, and definitely that which involved diesel and grease. My mother would often say, “Don’t want to get out of the grease sometimes?” His response, “my heart is clean!” Though he often accused us of gossiping, he did his fair share of the same.

Favorite food: Raccoon and deer

Favorite lines: Your mouth will be your ruin! I haven’t seen you since the coon crossed the river! Have a seat and lighten your saddle! Lisa, you talk too much! Here comes the Turtle! Hey Bo Coon! You got two nests! Uncle Fuzz! You seen Mr. Steve! Gennie – what you cook? I haven’t eaten all day! And, finally, I gotta get outta here! And so, he did. He got outta here and left us with heavy hearts, many questions, few answers, but with this assurance, “

“God doesn’t make any mistakes.” Lastly, he shared with us his favorite scripture: John 14: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021 from Moores Chapel Baptist Church 3171 Carey Station Road, Greensboro, Georgia 30642 at 12pm.
