Brother Douglas MacArthur Benson was one of four children, born September 21, 1953, to the late Sister Hazel Ruth Banks Benson and Deacon Frank Benson Sr. He was preceded in death by his brother Frank Benson Jr.
Brother Douglas MacArthur Benson accepted Christ and became a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, September 13, 1964, and was baptized by the late Reverend L. H. Stinson. He later began working on the Usher board as a dedicated usher for over 40 years, making sure the church programs were picked up from the printers and faithfully folded each one diligently and had them ready for church each Sunday.
“Doug,” what most people called him, graduated in the year of 1971, from Greene County High School. Earlier in his life he worked for several employers, and later he was employed by Reynolds Great Waters Golf Course for 25 years as a Golf Attendant. During these years he received numerous awards for Employee of the Month. He worked very hard and was very devoted to his family, the women and men golfers at Reynolds Great Waters, and his community. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. He enjoyed watching sports, and was very fond of the Georgia Bulldogs, where he also attended many games. Even after all he went throughout his sickness, he never complained. He would always say “I’m fine, I’m alright” even if he may have felt different. He will be missed by many people and friends he came in touch with who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memories his two loving and devoted sisters, Joan Heath (Lonnie), and Debra Benson. His nephew Damian Andre Wright, and great-nephew, Ayden DaCari Wright. A host of cousins, other family members, relatives, and friends who also loved him dearly. We thank God for Doug and for the part he played in our family. We will miss him deeply.
Graveside service will be held July 29, 2021 from the Mount Calvary Baptist 5601 Lake Oconee Pkwy, Greensboro, GA 30642 at 11 am.
