With profound love, reverence, and heartfelt gratitude to God, we celebrate the life and legacy of Deacon Elgin Armstrong, Sr., who was born on May 26, 1946, in Greene County, Georgia, to the late Deacon Joseph Armstrong, Sr. and Mother Lena Armstrong.
On Easter Sunday, he peacefully took his wings at Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, Georgia, entering into eternal rest and the presence of the Lord.
Deacon Armstrong accepted Christ at an early age at Flatrock Baptist Church, laying a strong spiritual foundation that guided his life. On March 26, 2023, he later united with Bethel AME Church under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Hall, where he served faithfully until his health declined.
Deacon Armstrong was preceded in death by his loving parents and siblings: Joseph Armstrong, Jr., Ellis Armstrong, Eartha Armstrong Spencer, and Thelma Armstrong.
He was educated in the Greene County School System and graduated from F.T. Corry High School in 1964. Following graduation, he began working as a driver before committing to a long and dedicated career with Universal Rundle, where he faithfully served for over 25 years until his retirement.
After retirement, Deacon Armstrong discovered a passion for servicing washers and dryers, becoming a trusted and reliable helping hand to many in his community. More importantly, he remained steadfast in his faith, serving diligently in his church and giving of himself through outreach efforts, including his involvement at the local senior citizens center.
A man full of joy and fellowship, Deacon Armstrong found delight in bringing people together. He loved hosting bingo, organizing bake-offs, making homemade preserves, and perfecting his craft on the grill with his famous barbecue. He was the heart behind many cherished family reunions and could often be found enjoying life and laughter with his best friend, son Steve.
Deacon Armstrong leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted sons, Stephen F. Armstrong and Elgin (Tosha) Armstrong, Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Miatta Quee, Ziquon, Layla, and Sasha, and sister Annie “Sue” Robbins; his brother-in-law, Wade Spencer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026 from Bethel Church @ Leslie Mill, Greensboro GA at 2pm with Rev. Donald Harris, Eulogist.
