Gwendolyn Anita Smith a powerhouse of resilience, truth, and love, was born on October 1, 1947, in White Plains, Georgia, to the late Robert and Gussie Sneed. On May 6, 2025, she peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven-an eternal rest she embraced with the same unwavering strength and courage that defined her earthly journey.
Though her roots began in the quiet countryside of White Plains, her impact spanned generations and geographies-from Mansfield, Ohio, where she built a home and career, to Greene County, White Plains Georgia, where her legacy will forever echo through the lives she touched. Gwendolyn retired with pride from F.E. Myers after more than 30 years of dedicated service, earning respect not only for her diligence but for her bold honesty, unmatched work ethic, and no-nonsense attitude. She didn't mince words. She told you the truth, whether you liked it or not-and you'd better listen, or get out of her way. Her words were sharp, but her love was deep. If she corrected you, it was because she believed in you. And if you ever felt her fire, it was only matched by the warmth of her heart.
A God-fearing woman through and through, Gwendolyn stood firm in her faith. With the Lord as the anchor of her soul, she raised her only daughter, Sandra Petty, with fierce devotion, steady wisdom, and an unbreakable love.
Gwendolyn's influence radiated far beyond motherhood-she was the heartbeat of her family. She was a cornerstone in the lives of her grandchildren: Dontrae Carter, Treveney Robinson, Lakeesha Smith, Antwan Smith, and Pierre Smith. She didn't just help raise them-she helped shape them.
Her legacy deepened even further in her great-grandchildren: TreShaun Smith, Kamari Smith, Taniyah Carter, Kerionna Smith, Tasaya Smith, Ke'Nayjah Moses, Terrell Robinson, Makayla Lawrence, Dayton Smith, Taliyah Smith, Brook'Lyn Colon, Brianna Colon, and Adon Colon.
As the last living sibling of a remarkable family tree, Gwendolyn carried the legacy of her brothers-Thomas, Emmitt, Edwin, Herbert, and Marion Sneed, and her sisters:Vera Woodruff, Mary Lou Lloyd, Carolyn Smith, Joan Asberry, Sylvia Norris, Dorothy Louise Porter, and Eltrude Shorter. Though she was the final flame, she burned bright with all of their memories and love, keeping their spirits alive in every story she told and every tradition she kept.
Gwendolyn Anita Smith's life was a fierce, beautiful tapestry woven with faith, family, humor, and truth. Her voice, her laugh, her lessons, and her love will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She lived boldly, loved deeply, and left this world better than she found it. She was and forever will be a blessing.
She also leaves loving memories to two sisters-in-law; Mary Alice Sneed and Dorothy Jean Sneed, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. One special nephews Aubrey Shorter.
