Joseph “Lee” Cavender, 62, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away September 21st, 2025. Upon graduating from Forest Park High School, class of 1981, Lee began his career at The Atlanta Journal Constitution, where he retired from in 2008.
Lee was proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gena Cavender and two children. Joseph Lee Cavender Jr & wife, Beth Cavender; Mary “Elissa” Janes & husband TJ Janes. Three grandchildren that he truly adored, Matthew Alexander Janes, Kaytlin Elizabeth Janes and Camden Lee Roger Janes. As well as two younger brothers, Timmy and Toby Johnson.
Throughout Lee’s life, he enjoyed racing motocross, family vacations to Panama City Beach Florida, football Sundays rooting for the New England Patriots, talking about cars and spending time with his family.
Lee will be greatly missed by his loved ones who will continue to treasure the memories imprinted forever in our hearts.
I would like to take a moment to recognize the crews at Greene County EMS, Greene County Fire Rescue, Greene County Sheriff's Office and the medical staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for the effort and hard work that was put into trying to save our daddy; your service did not go unnoticed, and you are truly appreciated.
Elissa, I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. I will be praying for you in the days to come.
