Mrs. Margaret Louise Thornton, (affectionately known as The General or GG), was born June 22, 1931 in Siloam, Ga to the late Savannah Merritt and Ezell Kimbro and raised by Mrs. Savannah and her adopted father Mr. Maxey (Rocky Boy) Greene. She transitioned to her heavenly home Friday, September 13, 2024. In addition, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lou Hatchet Thornton.
She embraced Christianity early on and joined New Springfield Baptist Church. She was a woman of faith throughout her life. She taught Sunday School, served dutifully as Church Secretary and sang in the Senior Choir.
She worked tirelessly in service to her community, as a City Council Woman, as a strong NAACP member, volunteering for many charities like Meals on Wheels, and Pink Lady Services.
Her kindness and compassion also extended to her career, in social services as a Caseworker for the Department of Family and Children 's Services. She also served as a bailiff with the Greene County court system.
Her greatest joy was spending time with family. Her home was always a gathering place for holiday celebrations and every day moments together. When she wasn't filling her home with love and kindness, she was an avid gardener, constantly tending to her beautiful blossoms.
The countless memories created will forever be treasured.
She gave her best to the ones she loved, her family, her church, and her community.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son: Willie C. Mapp (Patricia); daughters: Deborah Jewell (Joseph), and Valory Mapp-Carey.
Grandchildren: Reginald Mapp, Jimmy Mapp, Marcus Mapp Sr. (Jennifer), Keshia Jewell (Reese), Jonathon Mapp (Tinna), Robert Carey, and Melissa Carey.
Great Grandchildren: Marcus Mapp Jr., Savannah Mapp, Billye Whitehead, Maxey Mapp, Elisa Jewell, Sade Mapp, Stacey Mapp, Xavier Stokes, Cordero Armstead, Laniya Armstead, Cynthia Carey, Ricky Carey, and two ladies that affectionately called her mom, Minnie Ward and Rosa Lee Alexander and a host of other family and friends.
