Rachel L. Callaway was born on April 5, 1960 to the late Boise Callaway and Martha R. Callaway. She was a life long resident of Greene County, Georgia with a short stay in Atlanta, Georgia. At an early age, she married James Tyson and became affectionately known as “Shortcake”. A name given to her by the late James Tyson. Through their union, Rachel and James had three sons, Trevaris, Jecori and Marquez Tyson. After her divorce from James, she remained active with James and her in-laws to support fostering a loving relationship for her sons.
Rachel, a beloved mother grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie and friend loved family. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings and friends and it showed as she loved having gatherings at her home. Her favorite past times were cooking, getting dressed up, doing her hair, playing in make-up, and taking pictures. Raised in church, she was a woman that loved gospel and gospel music and was a firm believer in prayer. In addition to her interests, she devoted much of her time as a caregiver to family members accepting many roles one of which was becoming mother to non-biological children accepting and caring for them as her own.
Rache, the 9th and baby girl of 12 siblings is survived by three sons Trevaris Tyson of Greensboro, Ga., Jecori Tyson of Greensboro, Ga., and Marquez Tyson of Griffin, Ga.; four bonus children Almond Callaway, Arthur Callaway, Erika Jones and Tyreek Evans; twenty grandchildren, two great grandchildren; siblings Raleigh (Kristi) Callaway and Howard Callaway; in-laws Melissa (Pop), Jennifer, Ryan & Shawander Redd; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Mary Ann, David, Joanne, Boise, Tommy, Earnestine, Douglas, Ralph and Ricky.
Services: Friday, September 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel at Watts Funeral Home, Union Point with Rev. A. J. Bryant, Officiating.
