REVEREND JOSEPH LAMAR HURLEY
KNOWN AS "MAINTAIN"
REVEREND JOSEPH LAMAR HURLEY was born to Willie Mae Hurley and Willie Joe Gresham on August 8, 1959. He peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on September 2, 2024.
HE was a devoted Pastor for over fifteen years. He pastored Siloam Missionary Baptist Church (Union Point, Georgia) for thirteen years and Cades Chapel (Elberton, Georgia) for the last two years.
PASTOR JOSEPH HURLEY, had a gigantic personality and had an amazing ability to connect with people from all walks of life. "He never met a stranger." Joseph loved his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them. He was committed to the Lord and to his church family. Over the years, he was in high demand and he traveled and preached in many different cities. Joseph also loved singing. He possessed a unique, fiery voice that touched the hearts of many. He also enjoyed fishing and could often be found out on the lake in his boat during his leisure time. Another one of Joseph's hobbies was motorcycle riding; he was a member of the Naptown Motorcycle Club (White Plains, Georgia Chapter).
FOR many years, Joseph worked as an independent Concrete laborer, often doing work in his local community and surrounding areas. He had a serious work ethic and always wanted to do a stellar job!
PRECEDING him in death were his parents, Willie Mae Hurley (mother), Willie Joe Gresham (father); and Billy Gartrell (brother).
JOESPH leaves behind two loving children, daughter, Patrice Sims and son, Tavares Mahoney; three granddaughters, Laniya Sims, Jamiya Sims, and Jayla Smith; three sisters, Linda (Jimmy) Booker, Shirley Ann Hurley, Linda (Marion) Gresham; three brothers, Ronnie (Pamela) Gartell, Johnathan Hurley, and Carl (Dana) Giles; aunties and special auntie, Jearldine (Darriek) Rush, Lilly Jean Garnet, and Barbara Chapman; uncles, Bennie Goolsby Jr. and Larry (Janice) Hurley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from Edward Pope center, Washington, Ga. with Minister Peter White, Eulogist.
