Roger "Papa" Smith was born on October 31st in Woodville, Georgia, where he grew up surrounded by love and a deep sense of faith and community. He was a student of the Greensboro School System. Roger committed his life to Christ at an early age, becoming a member of Sanders Chapel Baptist Church. Roger's life's work became using his hands. He worked at Coca-Cola as their diesel mechanic until his retirement from the Poultry.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmy Sr. and Susie (Geer) Smith; his brothers: William Smith, Jimmie Smith, Jr., Robert Smith, Sr., Edgar "Chief" Smith and his sister Julia Mae Robinson.
Roger's legacy will continue to live on with his wife of 52 years Dorothy Smith. He was a proud and loving father to Maurice, Tracey and Antonio Smith. He was a loving and attentive grandfather of six and great grandfather of one. He was a devoted brother to his siblings, Reverend John (Darla) Smith, Deacon Emmitt (Linda) Smith and Deacon Joseph (Fannie) Smith, Ms. Cornelia Jones and Ms. Dollie Robinson. Roger was a kind and generous soul and a faithful friend to many who knew him.
Roger Smith was deeply committed to his faith and his community and was also known for his bold and courageous spirit. Even with all his years of illness, his faith in God never wavered. His unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone he met. His energy and passion for life will never be forgotten. His legacy of love, compassion and truth will continue to inspire those who knew him.
