Obituary For Sylvia Armour

Sylvia Armour was born on November 22, 1955, to the late Rufus and Josephine Armour. She was a proud daughter of Taliaferro County and attended Murden High School.

Sylvia was truly the life of the party. She had a heart as pure as gold, but don’t let that fool you—if you needed to be told something, Sylvia had no problem giving you the business! She was unapologetically herself: what you saw was what you got. One thing you could always count on was Sylvia ending a conversation with a hug and an “I love you.” Sylvia was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, companion, and friend. She loved her family deeply and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And, of course, anyone who knew Sylvia knew she loved her phone and her Newport’s.

At an early age, Sylvia joined New Hope Baptist Church. As time passed, she rededicated her life to Christ and became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Sylvia experienced great loss throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved firstborn son, Willie Alexander, and her siblings Ricky, Walter, Bertha, Pamela, William, James, and Calvin.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her devoted and patient companion, Arthur L. Cooper; her children, Shawanco Keith Belcher and Shelton Christina Alexander; and her two bonus daughters, Tamara Thomas and Machiele Gresham, whom she loved dearly. She also leaves behind the lifelines of her heart: Kearri, Jaleyn, Ladarius, Joya, Jolin, Tamari, Chelsea, Shannon, Annie, Amore and Tylin, along with seven precious great-grandchildren. Sylvia is also survived by her siblings Minnie Curry, Loretta Willie Cummings, Dorothea, Freddy Armour, Brenda Larry Ruff, Lisa Kenny Rhodes, In-laws Jane Weaver, and Lonnie Parham, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Sylvia’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. She cherished Rose Nell, Eva Lois, Phyllis, Beverly, Shirley W, Dell, Josie, Leslie, Vanessa, the Coopers, the Thorntons, and so many others who were blessed to know her. Although Sylvia has left a void that can never be filled, her family finds comfort in knowing that the memories she created have filled that space with love. Her laughter, hugs, words, strength, and unconditional love will live on through every person she touched.

Service were at: Taliaferro County High School Gymnasium in Crawfordville, Georgia on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11 AM with Rev. Frances Harper, Eulogist.
