Obituary For Virginia Lawson Brown

Virginia was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 16, 1941, to Virginia and William Lawson. She was the fifth and youngest child born to this union. She attended elementary and Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago, graduating in 1961.

Virginia relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, as a result of a job transfer, right before Western Electric closed its Chicago location in 1984. In 1985, she moved her mother to Lithonia, Georgia, so she could care for her. During that time, Virginia purchased a home to ensure her mother was comfortable and well cared for. It was during the mid-1980s that she met the love of her life, Johnny Brown, with whom she shared a beautiful and devoted partnership. They were married on December 13, 1989.

Virginia became a devoted member of New Christian Church, where she continued to grow in her Christian faith and deepen her spiritual journey. She was actively involved in church activities, embraced fellowship with her church family, and remained committed to living out her beliefs through service, kindness, and gratitude. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she carried it with grace and steadfast devotion.

She continued her professional journey with AT&T, dedicating herself to the company for a total of 30 years. After more than two decades of loyal service in Atlanta, Virginia proudly retired in 2004.

Virginia L. Brown passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 in the afternoon at home, surrounded by her loving husband, Johnny. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Virginia Lawson; her son, Ricky Lawson; and her siblings, Helen Lawson, Bernice Houghton, Roy Lawson, and William Lawson Jr.

Virginia leaves to cherish her precious memories; her husband, Johnny Brown, a daughter-in- law, Tina Lawson, four grandsons Quincy Lawson, Andrew Martin, Ricky Lawson Jr., and Shannon Lawson and two granddaughters, Tikeybeya Adames and Shavon Lawson. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren Kentrell, Cortez, Terrell, Kaeden and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025 from the New Springfield Baptist Church 4300 Hwy. 15S Siloam, Georgia at 2pm with Rev. Ricky Cosby, Eulogist.
