The Obituary “Sometimes it’s hard to understand and harder still to say, thy will be done when sorrow comes and sadness fills our day.” Hosie Montgomery
Today, we celebrate the homecoming of Mrs. Annie Jewel Cowan Cash Hilliard Montgomery, who everyone affectionately called Sandy. Mrs. Annie Montgomery was born on December 26, 1936 to the union of Mr. Herman Smith and Mrs. Pauline Whorten in Gadsden, Alabama. Mrs. and Mrs. Whorten-Smith raised a blended family consisting of Mrs. Montgomery siblings, Frank James Cash,
Elizabeth Cash, Herman Smith, Jr., Charles Cash, Annie Cowan- Cash and Carolyn Smith-Hayes.
Annie Montgomery was educated in the Etowah County Public School system. Early in life Annie received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Bethleham Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Lolly Turner. Annie Montgomery was preceded in death by her late husband, Hosie Montgomery, Jr. Annie and Hosie also maintained a blended family raising family members and their children together. Their family included Flora Dale Montgomery, Elaine Fleming, Rosie Montgomery, Amos Cash, Robert Montgomery and Sheldon Montgomery. Annie worked multiple jobs, but the one she loved the best was being a housewife and creating a family. Mrs. Sandy invested her time and heart into people. Sandy and Hosie would open their home to family and friends in times of need, and Annie continued this altruistic way of life even after the death of her husband. Mrs. Sandy loved a good party, and the party was always at her house; playing cards, music and dancing for birthdays. Annie’s ultimate wish was to leave this earth among family and friends in her home. On Sunday, January 23, 2021, the Lord granted her the most important wish of her lifetime. The curtain of her life was peacefully lowered as she slept in her bed among the company of her daughter, Rosie Montgomery; granddaughter, Diana Mostella and great granddaughter, Arabella Mostella. Annie J. Montgomery will forever remain in the hearts of her children, Amos (Worressa) Cash, Robert (Johnny Mae) Hilliard and her daughter, Rosie Montgomery. She leaves loving memories with her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and devoted friends.
