Deacon Wallace Mostella, 87, of Ashville, AL, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
He is survived by his loving family.
Wallace was born on December 5, 1937, to the late Mr. Ernest Mostella and Miss. Mary Eliza Dowell Mostella in Ashville, Al. He confessed Christ at the age of thirteen under Rev. Steve Robinson and joined the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
He was ordained as a Deacon under Rev. Charlie M. Robinson on February 24, 1978. Soon after, he was appointed Head of the deacon board, where he served faithfully for 47 years until his health no longer allowed him to continue
On Wednesday May 28, 2025, at 11:42 pm Deacon Wallace was called to glory surrounded by his family. Psalm 116:15: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."
As many are aware, he had to leave school after the third grade to work full-time alongside his father as a sharecropper. Despite this, he made the most of his circumstances, developing a range of valuable skills. He provided for his family by butchering and cooking any animal brought to him and cultivating some of the finest vegetables in town through his gardening expertise.
He was employed by CD Wilson Construction Company and also worked as a backhoe operator, installing gas and water lines across the state. Before returning home to Alabama, he spent time working in coal mines in Little Rock, Arkansas. Later, he joined The Capco Cement Company, where he eventually retired.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Miss Elizabeth Ann Williams on October 5, 1968 and they were blessed to raise two daughters.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Clarence, George and Harry Mostella and sisters Earnestine Williams, Della Clay, Betty Cook, Alice Ford, Bertha McDougal, Ella Smith and great grandson Amir Benson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife Elizabeth Mostella, two daughters Alicia (William) Hawkins of Birmingham Al, DeAnne (Kelvin Maurice) Bothwell of Gadsden Al; Six grandchildren Aniya (Arthur) Benson of Springville Al, Jada (Hunter) Hirsch of Steele Al, Mauriceana Bothwell of Jacksonville NC, MarKavier Bothwell of Birmingham Al, MarDayus Bothwell of Tampa FL, MarZander Bothwell of Gadsden Al; Five great grandchildren A’Manuell & Amani Benson of Springville Al, MarDayus Jr, MoriPheus & Laiken Bothwell of Tampa FL. One sister Olivia Jean Putnam of Warren, OH and sister-n-law Barbara (James)Oliver of Fairburn GA. A host of nieces and nephews and special niece Tanesha Bothwell of Huntsville Al. and special nephew Jeffrey (Benita) Williams of Ashville, AL.
Public Visitation will be held from 12pm-6pm on Friday, June 6, 2025 at West Gadsden Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Ashville.
Interment: Ashville City Cemetery
