- Joseph Gunn was born on May 9, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Joseph Reese and Ruevella Gunn. Growing up in Detroit, he attended the neighborhood public schools, where he developed the easygoing spirit, quick wit, and resourceful nature that would become hallmarks of his personality.
Joseph had a way of making life interesting. Whether he was under the hood of a car, racing remote-control cars and boats, watching the latest Marvel movie, capturing moments with his camera, or stepping out dressed to impress, he embraced every opportunity to enjoy life. He believed in making the most of each day and was well known for his favorite expression, "Wheeling and Dealing," a phrase that reflected his positive outlook and ability to keep life moving forward.
Above all else, Joseph treasured his family. His greatest joy came from watching his children and grandchildren grow, sharing laughter with siblings and friends, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. His love was expressed not only through words but through his presence, his humor, and the countless moments he shared with those closest to him.
Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Leotha Gunn; his son, Cortez Gunn; his daughter, Ruevella Gunn and his brother, James Smith Summers, III.
Cherishing his memory are his daughters, Kierra Park, Siara Park, Jayla Gunn, Madison Gunn, Ashley Gunn and Imani Gunn; his sons, Jerome Gunn, Jeremy Sandridge, Jaylin Gunn, Javell Gunn and Darrell Favors; his sisters, Linda Jorman, Renae A. Garrett and Kimberly Fitzpatrick; his special friends, Debra Park, Lisa Washington, Janneth Arias, Mechelle Reynolds, and Myra Stamps; his beloved grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Though Joseph's earthly journey has come to an end, the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy is one of strength, family, friendship, and enjoying life to the fullest. And whenever those who loved him hear the words, "Wheeling and Dealing," they will no doubt smile, remembering the man who made that phrase uniquely his own.
