  • Robert Lee "Jim Dandy" Graves was born on January 24, 1957, in Gadsden, Alabama, to the late Dorothy Ann Graves. Throughout his life, Robert possessed a gentle spirit, a joyful heart, and a smile that could brighten the day of everyone around him. Affectionately known as "Jim Dandy”; he earned the nickname that perfectly matched his cheerful personality and the joy he brought to everyone he met.
  • His faith was an important part of his life; he embraced it and found happiness in the simple blessings God provided. He faithfully attended Sweet Home United Methodist Church, where he proudly served on the Usher Board and lifted his voice as a member of the choir. Worship was more than a Sunday routine, it was a place where he found fellowship, purpose, and joy.
  • Robert received his education through the Gadsden City School System. Also, he attended the Darden Rehabilitation Foundation and Smeltzer Educational Center.
  • Sports brought Robert endless excitement. He proudly participated in the Special Olympics, played basketball, and remained an enthusiastic sports fan throughout his life. Cheering while watching his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide, you could always count on Robert to proudly say, "Roll Tide!" His love for the game was matched only by the joy he found in sharing those moments with family and friends.
  • Above all else, Robert treasured the people who surrounded him. His life was enriched by the love of devoted cousins, family members, church friends, and lifelong companions who embraced him as one of their own. He had a special way of making others smile, and the laughter he shared with the younger children in the family was among his greatest joys. Their smiles became his smiles, and their happiness filled his heart.
  • On August 4, 2026, Robert peacefully answered God's call from labor to eternal rest. Preceding him in death were his mother, Dorothy Ann Graves; his grandparents, Willie and Lillie Graves; two aunts and two uncles and his special cousins, Monique and Leroy Oatis. Though his earthly journey has ended, the love he shared, the friendships he cherished, and the joy he brought to those around him will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone blessed to know him.
  • Cherishing his precious memory are his devoted cousins, Vanessa (Diane) and Terry Hogg; his brother, James Turner; his aunt, Emma Jean Graves Wright; cousins, Percy Lee and Kay Virgil Graves of Springville, AL; special cousins, Staci (Toruntso) Johnson and Jurea Oatis; his special friends, Jeremy Mallet, Special Q, Timmy Lanford, Joyce Stokes, and David Morgan; along with Jim Adore, Marquavius (Emily), DeVonte (Brittany), Markeysha, Juwan and Benjamin (B.J.) and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Also cherishing his memory are the younger cousins who always brought laughter to his days: Myles, Warren, Tyonna, Harmonie, Tyler, Victoria L., Josiah, and Micah.
