Betty Mae Hamlin was born to the late Oscar and Lucille Jenkins Hicks July 23, 1939, in Louise, MS. She was a 1959 graduate of Montgomery High School and the fifth oldest of twelve siblings. Betty met Renell Hamlin and was united in holy matrimony November 22, 1969. She then moved to Canton, MS. To this union there were five kids: Bobby, Keany, Toroski, Eldon and Shemeka. Betty united with Mt. Zion Cobbsville M.B. Church family and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Jackson. She was a faithful and active member: President of the Mother’s Board, Sunday School Teacher, Mission President and Usher. Betty always greeted you with a smile and a warm spirit. She was never ashamed to speak about the goodness of Jesus Christ. She worked at Presto Manufacturing Company for 30 plus years until retirement in 2004. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories: one daughter, Shemeka (Daryoush) Palmer of Olive Branch, MS; four sons: Bobby (Alice) Hicks of Canton, MS, Keany Hicks of Denver, Colorado, Toroski (Telvish) Hamlin of Canton, MS and Eldon (Makita) Hamlin of Canton, MS; one stepson, Larry (Katie) Hamlin of Canton, MS; five sisters: Luvenia Brown, Canton, MS, Eddie Mae Lee, Louise, MS, Evangelist Josephine Hicks, Gary, IN, Mary Chamberlain, Gary, IN, and Evangelist Dorothy Hicks, Biloxi, MS; sister in law, Charlene Hicks, Gary, IN; 25 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her husband, Renell Hamlin; parents, Oscar and Lucille Hicks, and five siblings preceded her in death.
Rev. Vincent and Sis. Patricia Houseworth would like to send their condolences to the entire Hamblin family. Mother Hamlin was a woman who openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue was the law of kindness. She will always be remembered as a Mother who feared the Lord and a woman who didn't mind worshiping and praising his Holy name. Finally, we encourage the entire Hamlin family, to continue to be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
