Betty Mae Porter was born on May 16, 1939 to Hollis T. Moore and Rettie D. Moore of Pocahontas, MS. She departed peacefully on August 25, 2020 under Pax Hospice but at her home in Jackson, MS. She was 81. Preceding her in death is her mother, Rettie D. Moore; father, Hollis T. Moore; son, Gregory Porter (Jarenda) and husband, Elbert Porter. Betty attended Sumner Hill School of Clinton, MS. She was baptized at an early age and became a faithful member of Holy Ghost Missionary Baptist Church of Clinton, MS. In 1965, she and her husband, Elbert became married. They had known each other three years before. Betty was a dedicated individual to cooking, fishing, gardening, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed shopping and being the “fashionista”, many knew her to be. Betty Mae leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters: Linda Jones, Beverly Porter, Betty W. Porter Brown (Lee), and Faye Smith Moten (Richard) of Texas; her sons: Emmanuel Porter and Earl Holly (Cheryl) of Texas; grandchildren: Ricco Porter (Terri) of Alabama, Keeoka Moore Smith (Dwight) of Maryland, Natasha Kelly of Ohio, Romaro Moore (Deanna), Lontavious “Tay” Porter, LaRonda Kelly of Ohio, Keyandre Kelly of Ohio, Gregory Kelly of Ohio, Angel Owens, Fred Porter, Chavakia Porter, Teairra Porter, Keyora Porter, Kristina Porter of Texas, Emmanuel Blockson, Valencia Kelly of Ohio, Isaiah Moten, Brianna Holly, and Lorenzo Holly of Texas; 18 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Each will remember her as a genuine, loving, and phenomenal woman, who was supportive in every goal and life changing accomplishments throughout their lives.
