Billy Ray Bridges, the fifth of sixteen children, was born to Jovan Bridges and Emma Lee Holloway Bridges in Jayess, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jovan Bridges and Emma Lee Holloway Bridges; one child, Preston Bridges; three sisters, Queen Ester Bridges Coleman, Eloise Bridges Caston, and Gloria Jean Bridges Magee; and four brothers, York Bridges, Howard Eugene Bridges, Eugene Bridges, and Baby Bridges.
Billy Ray confessed Christ at an early age at New Home Church of Christ Holiness USA. He later transferred his membership to Mt. Harmon M.B. Church in Westwego, Louisiana, until he returned home to Jayess, Mississippi. Billy Ray immediately rejoined New Home Church Christ Holiness under the leadership of Elder Eddie Brown.
He attended Hope Elementary School and graduated from J.J. Gulledge High School in Tylertown, Mississippi. Billy Ray was employed with Avondale Shipyard as a longshoreman and foreman for over forty years.
Billy Ray departed this life on November 8, 2025, at Forest General in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Anjuan Brown (Marian) of Greenwood, MS and Kimberly Bridges of New Orleans, LA; brothers, Jovan Bridges of Tylertown, Mississippi, Larry Bridges (Jean), Bernard Bridges (Sharon), Roger Bridges, and Vernell Bridges of Jackson, Mississippi; sisters, Mae Evelyn Magee and Alma Bridges of Jayess, Mississippi, and Audrey Bridges Wiley of Jackson, Mississippi, six grandchildren, Courtney Brown, Britteny Pickens, Kelsy Brown, Olivia Edebiri, Preston Bridges, Jr., and Brycen Edebiri; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
