Obituary For George "Peach Man" Cavitt, Jr.

Funeral service will be Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., Westhaven Funeral Home Chapel, 3580 Robinson Street, Jackson, MS 39209 with burial in Wells Grove M.B. Church Cemetery, Williamson Road, Clinton, MS 39056.

The race is not given to the swift, nor to the strong, but to the one that endures until the end. Ecclesiastes 9:11

George Cavitt, Jr., was born to the union of Gussie McQuiter Cavitt and George Cavitt, Sr., on March 28, 1924, in Clinton, Mississippi, located in Hinds County. George was the fifth child of eight children.

George accepted Jesus Christ his Lord at early age at Wells Grove in Clinton, Mississippi. George received his education in Clinton, Mississippi and Jackson, Mississippi receiving a certificate in culinary arts and auto mechanic technician. He joined the United State Army "WWII".

George had his first child at an early age Willie Albert, he later married his loving wife Alberta Rodgers to this union four children were born; Leberta Betty Jean, Louise and Tommie. In 1955 George had his last child Betty Jo.

George relocated from Mississippi to Hammond, Indiana in 1956, after divorcing Alberta where he lived in Indiana until his death.

George teenage years he worked as a farmer on a 15 acre plantation, planting, cultivating, harvest cotton, corn, vegetable using mules also equipment for farm livestock.

In Indiana, George worked for over 50 years with Laborers' International Union of North America Local 41. William Walker Construction and Rowley Construction and Sons Corp. He was a team leader on most jobs, building commercial businesses, laying concrete for homes, worked inside steel industries and Oil & Gas Refinery on dangerous projects.

George took every challenge and made the best of it. All his co-workers loved him even after retiring. In 1990 George decided after 50 years to retire. Although 50 years was not enough, he continued working with Laborers International Local 41 doing sisd jobs.

George had a passion for working on cars and doing home improvements. He never thought a challenge was too big to accomplish.

On Saturday morning George went to the barbershop, flea market and helping friends or other people on home improvements and Sunday afternoon he went to Chicago visiting friends. His younger years the weekends was spent taking his two granddaughters Sonya and Brandi places while traveling with Sonya to Mississippi when Louise could not go.

George was a strong, kind, caring passionate, gentle man who loved life. He treasured his sister, brothers, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends and others.

The best way for us to remember George is in our hearts as a mighty man of God and one who witness his mercy, grace and glory to everyone.

George peacefully transitioned his life after fighting a good fight on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 4:42 p.m.

George was preceded in death by his parents; Gussie and George Cavitt, Sr., three sisters; Annie Mae Lee, Ailean Smith, Annie Bell Daniels, four brothers; Qullian Simmons, Payton Willis Cavitt, Johnny Clifton Cavitt and Napoleon Simmons, two sons; Willie Albert Cavitt, Tommie Lee Cavitt, one daughter; Levertha Cavitt-Hayes, stepdaughter; Brenda Gail Clark, three nephews-son; Percy Daniels, Louis Daniels, special friends, Beulah Gardner, Johns Lambert Norman, Eugene Wright, Jr. and Howard Rogers.

His legacy and cherished memories to those that loved him must, his three daughters; Betty Jean Cavitt-Thomas of Pontiac, Michigan, Louise Cavitt of Gary, Indiana; Betty Jo Cavitt-McCray of Grand Rapids, Michigan, stepdaughter; Josie Busbee (Jerome) of West Bloomfield, Michigan, two stepsons; William Clark, Joe Clark, Jr. both of Pontiac, Michigan, one son-in-law; James Hayes (Leberta) of Auborn Hill, Michigan, two sisters-in-law; Mary Marley (Sam) of Jackson, Mississippi, Yuksel "Liz" Cavitt (Johnny) of St. Louis, Missouri, two special granddaughters; Sonya D. Cavitt Dooley (Sundus) of San Antonio, Texas, Brandi J. Rucker (David) of Gary, Indiana, niece; Lottie Wells (Cardoza) of Clinton, Mississippi, cousin-son; Malcolm Johnson (Hot Rod) of Clinton, Mississippi, a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
