Helen S. Brinson- Brown was born on August 13, 1938, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Benjaman Singletary and Rachel (Griffin) Singletary. On Friday, February 21, 2025, she peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord in Snellville, Georgia. Helen accepted Christ at an early age, dedicating her life to Him at the age of 10 at Cade Chapel Church under the leadership of Reverend J. D. Hayden in Jackson, Mississippi. Throughout her life, she remained a devoted servant of faith. She was an active member of the Mother's Ministry and the Pastor's Aid Ministry at Bethel Baptist Church in Starkville, Mississippi, and served in various other capacities within the church community. In 2021, Helen relocated to Grayson, Georgia, to be near her family. Her devotion to Christ remained steadfast, and at the time of her passing, she was a foundational member of Faith in Christ Church in Snellville, Georgia, where her son and daughter serve as pastors. Helen graduated from Lanier High School in 1956 and pursued higher education at Jackson State University, earning a B.S. in Language Arts in 1962. Her passion for language and culture led her to serve as a dedicated member of the Peace Corps. To further her Spanish language skills, she studied at Saltillo State Teacher's College in Saltillo, Mexico. During her time there, she received a heartfelt request from Principal Luther B. Buckley of Lanier High School to return and teach Spanish. Answering the call, Helen taught Spanish at Lanier High School for 32 years. After retiring from Lanier, she continued shaping young minds as a Professor of Spanish at Tougaloo College from 1991 to 2010. A lifelong learner, Helen earned her M.A. in Foreign Languages from Mississippi State University in 1971 and later obtained an Educational Specialist degree in Secondary Education and Foreign Languages (Spanish) in 2005 and also pursued a Doctorate in Education at MSU. Even while hospitalized, she remained committed to her studies at Salem School of Ministry and was determined to complete her final class. Helen was the beloved wife of the late Jimmie Bernard Brinson and the late Joseph Brown. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through her three devoted children: Delinsa Maiden (Reginald), Ursula Ray (Cedric), and Pastor Jimmie Brinson (Pastor Anita). She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren Leah, Eve, Regina, Reanna, Delana, Reginald II, Basie, Trinity, and Mikai and a cherished great-grandmother to Lauren and Lyra. Affectionately known as "Butterball" by her late husband Jimmie, Helen was preceded in death by her father Benjaman Singletary; mother Rachel (Griffin) Singletary; sister Janie Singletary-Hodges; and brother Brutus Singletary. Helen's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and the many students whose lives she touched. She leaves behind a host of loved ones who will miss her dearly but rejoice in the knowledge that she is now at peace with the Lord. Helen's legacy as an educator and devoted servant of faith will continue to inspire those who knew her.

My deepest condolences to the family of a true servant of God; a well-loved lady, fellow church member of Bethel MB. Church, and a gifted professor of my beloved alma matter Tougaloo College . Sweet rest Mother Brown.
Praying for peace that surpasses all understanding. She was the best teacher one could have ever asked for. She cared about our overall development as young adults and ensuring that we could write, speak and understand Spanish fluently.
The requirements for her classes taught us how to become young adults in real world scenarios, such as how to dress and carry oneself in any setting. Praying for the family!
My Aunt Helen was one of the kindest souls to walk this earth..may she find sweet rest and peace in her heavenly home. Love Always your niece Totsha Brinson(strawberry)🍓
Mrs. Brinson was the sponsor for the National and Spanish Honor Societies when I attended Lanier High School. She always told us that honor was a way of life, not just good grades. She told us that we should live honorably and be trustworthy in all of our dealings. I thank her for reminding us of that. She was indeed one of Lanier High School's finest teachers, and we are all a little bit better for knowing her.
A treasure every student was like her own child it took a village and that village was family rest you taught us respect, responsibilities, and if nothing else your appearance tells a lot about your character 💕💕💕
I well remember, Ms. Singletary as I knew her by that name at that time. She was neat as a pin and so kind to me, during my years at Lanier High School as a student. I send heartfelt love and condolences to the family of Mrs. Helen S. Brinson Brown. She such an awesome Spanish teacher. You will definitely be remembered by all of those students, whose lives you impacted in such a positive way. You rest now from your earthly labor. I know your heavenly reward made it all worth it.
