Mr. James Milton Hawkins, 74, was born on August 12, 1950 to Eldridge Hawkins, Sr. & Mae Lillie Atkinson- Hawkins in Bolton, MS. Mr. James Milton Hawkins passed away June 4, 2025 in Brandon, MS
Mr. James Hawkins was an absolutely amazing man and musician, and there will never be another like him! Mr. Hawkins was a huge influence in our son's life (Matthew Spann was passed away last year), Matt was a member of the Jim Hill choir under the amazing direction of Mr. Hawkins the entire time he was a student at Jim Hill, and he was able to travel to places that he never dreamed possible. Matt looked up to Mr. Hawkins in so many ways, and his love for our son and all of the students under he care will carry on for many years to come. His presence will continue to be with us, and his profound impact on everyone he encountered, will never be forgotten. I know Mr. Hawkins and Matt are together again singing and rejoicing in the presence of their Savior and Lord!
My family and I send our sincere condolences to the Hawkins family. I have known Mr. Hawkins and his family since I was a little boy when his dad use to cut my hair. Through my years of musical training and singing, I always encountered Mr. Hawkins and his choirs whether in schools or at churches. Singing along side such a great man of God was an inspiration. He truly lived out the Apostle Paul's words when he states, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." You truly reached and fulfilled the call and destiny that God ordained you to do. You will be missed but truly never forgotten. God directed your path through life and now to your eternal resting place in the end. Much love and blessings to his wife and family. Eddie Spann & family
I am surprised and so very sorry to hear about the passing of my close friend, Roosevelt Hawkins' brother, James! I have known Roosevelt for about 50 years, since our years at Jackson State University. I knew James very slightly...I met him a few times! But what I know about him is that he comes from a well-respected and loving family, the Hawkins of Bolton, MS. He was so quiet & reserved that I never knew how accomplished & impressive he was. I knew that the choirs he was associated with were very talented and popular in the music community...but I never knew how dynamic his choir music leadership was...I knew him as a gentle, humble, loving, and friendly man! My condolences to all of his family! Arthur Ray Shoto
My condolences the family of Mr. Hawkins. I went to Jim Hill and I have know him for a long time and he was Fabulous. Jessie Pamplin
Sending prayers and condolences to the family, circle of friends, students and all those who touched shoulders with him.
Thank you Mr. Hawkins for teaching the world the power of music. As a youth attending Orange Hill Missionary Church, your gift of music inspired me. Rest from your labor Sir.
My prayers go all to Mr. Hawkins family, all his students that he taught over the years. He loved his students & music.
I pray peace for the Hawkins family. Mr. Hawkins was a wonderful teacher for all of the young people whose lives he touched. He was able to help so many students go to college and beyond through music. His mark on them all will be felt for years to come, his legacy is ongoing.
James Hawkins and I have been friends, musical comrades, and music brothers for over 40 years. We shared collegiate choral experiences, shared high school and college choir exchanges, and shared our love of and for God. An incredible choral maestro, he was always an encourager of others, a Mentor, and a Positive Example for students and his fellow music colleagues. Over these many years, our bond as mud brothers never changed. My Condolences and Prayers to the family..
My condolences to a great Brother - in law & a great friend, always making you smile with some funny stories and sometimes serious life stories.💔💔💔
Offering prayers and sending condolences to the Hawkins family. I had the opportunity and privilege to work with Mr. James Hawkins at Jim Hill High School while serving as Assistant Principal from 2003-2007. I certainly enjoyed visiting his classroom and observing him teaching his students. He was indeed a master music teacher and an outstanding choir director. His passion for his students was unmatched and unparalleled. He provided an opportunity for his students to perform throughout the United States and several foreign countries. Mr. Hawkins left a rich, strong, and living legacy of excellence, service, faith, love, compassion, and integrity. Mr. Hawkins is certainly going to be missed. Charles L. Gentry Clinton, MS
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.' Revelation tells the end of our earthly story, but it also gives us a glimpse into eternity where there will be no more pain, sickness, or death. This is definitely what I'd consider a major part of the gospel: a promised eternity without grief of any kind! Mr. Hawkins was an icon in the Jackson Community, who has truly left an indelible mark in the JPS System. To the Hawkins Family--my heartfelt Condolences & Prayers! (Shirley Kyles Dinkins & Family)
