Chief Horton, I was devastated to hear about LaaWanda's passing. Please know that my family and I are praying for you. LaaWanda will be truly missed. May God comfort your heart and be with you during this time. Our sincerest condolences!
LaaWanda and I met at my great aunt's, Mrs. Blanche Wolfe Griffin, nursery school at the tender ages of 2 and 3. She was always friendly and kind with her warm beautiful smile. The Horton and my family attended Third Temple Church together. The Horton and Jones Families have my deepest condolences prayers. May the Lord give you peace, strength, and comfort during this most difficult time. "Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (for we walk by faith, not by sight:) we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 (KJV)

I grew up in the same community with Laa Wander. We attended GN Smith Elementary School and walked home together many days from Powell Middle School. Laa Wander was like a sister to me. After graduating from High School and attending JSU her meeting Lindsey Horton was like a gift from God. Every brother wants the best for his sister. I knew from day one Lindsey was the perfect man for Laa Wander. The first time seeing them together there was a Love atmosphere that could only be created by God. Any relationship that both partners believe in God only God can separate. But the Love remains forever.
Lindsay, may you find solace in your grief. They say time heals all wounds, but a shattered heart will definitely more mending. God speed.
Sending peace and blessings, may the creator and the ancestors watch over you Lindsey and guide LaaWanda on her journey. Ase Ase...
May God comfort you through this difficult time. Sending prayers. The Anderson Family
Mrs. Laawanda definitely was the light of the 6th floor of COJ office, the time of me knowing her. She ALWAYS carried that beautiful smile on her face, and kept her head held high!! She was very professional and made sure she spoke every time she would run across me as I did her. I called her my birthday twin because our days were 1 day apart!! Take your rest, your job here has been done! Job well done! 💜
To Brother Lindsey and family, my family and I extend our condolences. I had the pleasure of knowing Sister LaaWanda as a City of Jackson Employee. She was a true professional that enjoyed helping everyone . Hold onto her many precious memories. Be forever blessed and uplifted in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Always that kind smile wherever and whenever you saw her. True beauty outward and inward. A greater lady
Sending many prayers and condolences to the Horton and Jones families. Having LaaWanda as a co-worker for many, many years in the City of Jackson Budget Office and later as we collaborated through my time at JPS I was so very proud of the work that we did together. As she ascended to Director of Administration I was excited to watch her lead the City's finances with intelligence, humility, and grace. How she expressed her deep love for you and her family were lessons that I will always remember. I will always remember her for her sweet and kind spirit. May God continue to bless you as she is resting in his loving arms.

Mr. Horton, Charles and I are praying for you and the family. May all the good memories you and LaaWanda shared bring joy and peace to your heart. You and LaaWanda were some of our best neighbors. Our girls loved you and LaaWanda. They would always say, "Mrs. LaaWanda is so pretty and as nice as she is pretty". As a Neighbor, just across the street, we have some good memories of LaaWanda. If our girls needed something when we were not at home, they knew they could go ask Mrs. LaaWanda. Mrs. LaaWanda was a special lady in our girls' lives. Still today they call LaaWanda, "The Pretty Lady". With Love Charles, Evelyn, Angela, La'Kim and Erica
