Funeral services will be Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Jericho Church of Christ Cemetery in Wesson, MS.
Manuel Stapleton, Jr., better known as, “June”, was born in Wesson, MS on April 9, 1937, to Josie Mae Davis and Manuel Stapleton, Sr., both who preceded him in death. He was the oldest son and the third of six children. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Jericho Church of Christ and remained a faithful member. As a young adult he helped his parents put his young siblings and sisters through school. He attended Parrish High in Hazlehurst, MS, although limited amount of education he was very skillful and creative. Through life he was a cook, shoe shiner, car detailer, co-owner of Los Angeles club, mechanic, yard man, preacher, etc. He lived in Chicago in his earlier years and married his love, “Shirley Ann Levi,” in 1963 and to this union two children were born. As life went on Manuel Stapleton, Jr. relocated to Los Angeles, CA where other relatives were residing. He became a car detailer and fell in love with Cadillacs and began purchasing them. In the 80’s he met “Sarah Bailey,” and love came his way again. They later married in September 1999. On December 4, 2021, Manuel, also known as “June”, departed this earthly life and went home to take his rest. The legend of time went on this time. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Stapleton, Sr. and Josie Mae Davis, one grandchild, Jerome Hunt, Jr. and numerous of other relatives and friends. Manuel leaves to mourn his passing and to celebrate his memories, his wife of 22 years, Sarah Stapleton; seven children: Angela Stapleton Hunt, Manuel (LaShawn) Stapleton both of Los Angeles, CA; Joyce (Willie) Parker of Wesson, MS; Willie (Blood) (Joyce) Bledsoe, Cleopathra Merchant, both of Brookhaven, MS; Audrey Scott of Hazlehurst, MS; and Mary (husband) of Louisiana; 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry (Freddie) Bailey of Hazlehurst, MS; two sisters: Charlene Stapleton of Chicago, IL and Gladys Banks of St. Louis, MO; three brothers: Eugene (Christine) Stapleton of Wesson, MS; MH (Marie) Stapleton of Bowie, Maryland; and Harold (Shirley) Stapleton of St. louis, MO; two brothers-in-law: Henry Bailey, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Willie Jermaine Foster of Gallman, MS; four sisters-in-law: Pamela Newsome of Hazlehurst, MS; Semica (Johnathan) Weathersby of Wesson, MS; Terricka (Cyrus) Jones of Byram, MS; and Tawanya Foster of Gallman, MS; four uncles: George Bailey of Homewood, IL; Glen Bailey, Blake Bailey and Don Bailey all of Hazlehurst, MS; three aunts: Linda (JD) Phillips of Jackson, MS; Joyce (Rev. Lionell) Corley and Betty Bailey both of Hazlehurst, MS; one great aunt, Rosella Watson of Hazlehurst, MS; two great uncles: Nonzo (Ella) Gary and Ozell Gary both of Hazlehurst, MS; special loved ones: Antonio Watson, Demarco Bailey, Kendrick Bailey, Eugene Stapleton, Jr., Fredrick Stapleton, Willie Otis Banks, Shirley Stapleton, Frank and Minnie, Ivy Carson and Norman Furnace. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
