Barbara Jean Holmes Trim died May 28, 2020. An unconditionally loving mother, dedicated daughter and sister and loyal family member, Barbara was a no-nonsense woman of faith and courage. Empowered with strong, unwavering beliefs and standards, she lived her life as an example.
Barbara believed in working hard to achieve goals and set that tone for her life and that of her children. Education was paramount as a graduate of Lanier High School Class of 1966 and the holder of a bachelor’s degree from Jackson State University, she upheld education as the gateway to intellectual and economical freedoms. She believed in dedication to work as she gave of herself and thrived at Friends of Children of MS (FCM), a nonprofit agency for children in Head Start within the rural counties of Mississippi for over forty years until her health forced her retirement in 2013. Being one of the four oldest of nine children of Alma Jean Magee and one of only two girls, she appreciated and loved family. She gained more brothers and sisters from the union of her mother to Johnny Magee Senior making the sibling total over thirteen. She helped take care of her mother and her five youngest brothers along with raising her three youngest of four children, which was no small feat.
Barbara was very vocal about doing the right things for the right reasons, sharing with those less fortunate and building a prosperous life that was God filled and family focused. Her inner circle of friends was intimate but devoted and like-minded, most of whom grew with her during her forty years at FCM. As hobbies go, she was an expert seamstress which was evidenced in her home décor. She was an obsessive outdoors woman and incessant gardener, who loved having her own space and enjoyed making things inside and out, look rich and beautiful.
Barbara leaves to treasure her memory: Four children- Donald Holmes, Natalie Holmes, Joseph Trim and Eric Trim; Five brothers, Patrick McCray (Rhonda), Keith Magee (Marilyn), Darrel Magee (Frankie), Gregory Magee (Charlene), and Sharone Magee; Sister Pamela Anderson; Stepsisters Inez Jenkins, Juanita Frierson and stepbrother Marvin Magee; Her “best friend” and grandson-Jamal Holmes-Griffin; grandchildren: Sebastian Trim, Tawanda Dinkins (Jamaal), Tiffany Perkins, Donald Thompson (Courtney), and a host of family and friends.
My name is Patsy Wstson ines employed with FCM for almost z30 years. I dearly love Mrs. Trim . She was everything her obituary said. I often think of her and somethings she shared with me on my journey in the work force. She would say Patsy Watdon and tell me what needed to know. I never forgot the lessons I learned from her. She was so dear to me. I don't know how I came to be on the obituary page for Westhaven. I guess God want me to know. Several years before she retired I found that her nephew Shum was the father of my little cousin Ian and our relationship grew even deeper and we would talk about Shum and Ian. To the family may God continue to give you strength. Lord to.you be the Glory and Honor for Mrs. Barbara Trim and for what she instilled in my
