Obituary For Ola Mae Horton Howard

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., Emmanuel M.B. Church, 1109 Cooper Road, Jackson, MS 39212 with burial in Rocky Springs Church Cemetery, 16997 Midway Road, Terry, MS 39170.

Ola Mae Horton-Howard was born on December 15, 1931 to the late Lester Joiner and Minnie Easley- Joiner in Hinds County Mississippi. Mother Howard transitioned from this life to her heavenly home October 30, 2019. Mother Howard was a faithful and dedicated member of the Rocky Springs Missionary Baptist Church for nearly 40 years and later united with Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Mother until her passing. Mother Howard truly lived and breathed Titus 2:35 “The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things: That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” Mother Howard was respected by many in the community of Terry where she lived for most of her life. She touched families and many more throughout her life, she will be greatly missed. Her life and legacy will remain in the hearts of many forever. Ola met and married the late Willie Horton, Sr. at a young age and to this union produced eighteen children. She later met and married the late J.C. Howard and gained three stepchildren Freddie, Michelle and Bonita. She was preceded in death by sons; Willie Horton, Sr., Moses Horton, Sr., M.C. Horton, , Harold Horton, Sr., and Jerry Lee Horton, daughters’; Annarisa Horton, Betty Horton, and Ida Mae Kendrick. Mother Howard leaves to cherish her loving memories seven sons: Dr. Jesse (Betty) Horton, Pastor W.C. Horton, Sr., Minister Nazare Horton, Roosevelt (Iris) Horton, Minister Tommy (Priscillia) Horton, and David Horton; Pastor R.D. (Paulette) Wells; four daughters: Marie Pope, Minnie McGee, Lucille (Derrick) Patton and Louise (James) Edwards and daughter-in-law's, Frances, Princess, Theresa, and Maplean Horton. Her brothers Robert (Carrie) Joiner, Thomas Joiner and two sister-in-law’s Ella Mae Joiner and Lucy Mae Joiner. A host of grand and great grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends along with Rocky Springs and Emmanuel Church Families.
