I will truly miss you Rex. You made an impact on my life. You were a good friend and great motivator to many. I will keep your boys and your family in my prayers.

Tribute to Rex Everett from the Communications Department Classmates. I am only one; But, I am one. I cannot do everything; But, I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do; And what I ought to do, By the grace of God, I will do.

Rex was very instrumental in connecting all MC students together during the annual homecoming. He made sure that his classmates and any person that had attended MC knew that it was coming and that attending it would be worth your time. He had a pleasant and happy spirit. You could call him and he would just make you laugh. He talked about the past, present, and future.

First I must say I have found comfort in reading so many loving memories of our beloved Rex. 34 years ago (at my place of employment) this 23 year old super intelligent, mild-mannered gentleman Rex Everett became my mentee. A true Christian with undying faith. Over the past 34 years we formed a unique friendship. I will cherish the memories of the lunch dates that I had with you and your dear sisters Wendy and Nora. He was the DJ at my 1992 wedding. I did not know that receiving a call from Rex at 1:41 P.M. on December 31st, 2021 hearing him say "hello BFF" would be the last time I heard his voice. To the entire Everett family thank you for sharing this beautiful soul, prayerfully you will find comfort in knowing the positive impact Rex had on so many people -----I am one. BFF

Rex inspired me. He made exercise at the YMCA fun. Always kept a smile on his face and was so full of personality too. I am really gonna miss you Rex. My prayers go out to his entire family. I new sensei Rex for 30 years. I got Rex started in karate at the downtown YMCA. Our instructors were sensei Ronnie Lott and sensei Alan Smith. He was also in the group that graded me and promoted me to Black belt in 2009. Sensei Rex was a good man. Always had a smile on his face and a great personality. If you ever met Sensei Rex and spent any time with him, you not only gained a friend, you gained a family member. He was my son's karate instructor for years. For the past couple of years they got to see each other in passing and catch up as they worked. My son was a paramedic and saw Rex quite a bit at the hospital. We loved Sensei and he truly cared for and loved his students. He worked so many jobs and mentored so many people, I used to think he must have been able yo magically add hours to a day to accomplish all he did. During the years we were in karate, I gladly accepted the job as "karate mom / concession coordinator / fundraiser for Rex. He worked so hard for our kids and I loved doing that I could to help him. We have such great memories from practices, tournaments, traveling to New York.... We are better people for knowing this very special Godly man. I knew Rex Everett for many years as a martial artist, and enjoyed his easy smile and friendly manners. He was always a very honorable man, who was very skilled in all aspects of Shorin-Ryu karate. As an instructor, Rex made a sincere effort to help everyone regardless of age or sex, and he especially enjoyed mentoring all of the young folks. I personally worked out in his class many times, and he always treated me with courtesy and respect. As a competitor, Rex was a great sportsman; and when he won, it was without pridefulness, and if he lost, it was without rancor. No one ever observed Rex getting angry, or heard him talk badly about anyone! I also competed with him many in tournaments, but never against him. We worked together as referees and he was always scrupulously honest. My deepest sympathy and condolences go out to Rex Everett's family and his many friends for their loss. I moved to Jackson in 1985, and as I was entering to join the YMCA Fitness Center on I-55N, one of the first person's I met on entering the building was Rex. Immediately our God's spirits joined as though we had known each other all of our lives. And during my tenure at the YMCA I noticed that Rex projected the same spirit with everyone he came in contact with.

Sensei Rex was a man who could light up a room with his big smile. Sensei Rex taught my daughter, Angela, karate for the past several years. Over the years, Angela not only learned karate, but she learned other things about people and family from Rex's stories and actions. He was able to teach karate in a gentle and kind way while conveying the discipline and precision that is required with karate. Rex was a Christian man who lived out his faith in how he treated people with kindness and respect as well as reaching out to those who needed a role model in their life. Sensei Rex will be missed as karate teacher, friend, mentor, and someone who had a great heart with a huge smile. You are missed, Sensei Rex! You and your family are in our prayers.
