Mrs. Berlinda Lockhart Stevens, was born on January 2,1949 to the late Jetson and Mary Lee Lockhart in Louisville Ga. She transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

She was a God-Fearing woman who accepted Christ at the age of 8. Baptized at Antioch Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities from childhood until adulthood as a member of the Deaconess Ministry. Berlinda was a proud graduate of T.W. Josey High School Class of 1967. During her years of education, she was a former Miss Personality, a Majorette, a member of the Union Voters League, NAACP and Rosa T. Beard Debutante Club Inc., very active in many academic and social organizations.

Her nursing career started at the Eugene Tallmadge Memorial Hospital (Wellstar Augusta University Medical Center) as a Neonatal Nurse. Later, she became the first Black Certified Chief Gastrointestinal Endoscopy nurse for the Medical College of Georgia. During her tenure with MCG. Ms. B, as she was affectionately called, worked directly and traveled with the former MCG president, Dr. Francis Tedesco and Dr. Ronald Brown Sr, in the Endo Department for many years. She traveled with an esteemed list of gastroenterologists across the United States for conferences, procedures, and professional developments with Olympus America.

Berlinda will truly be missed by all who loved and knew her. Her sweet little laugh when she talks, her amazing cooking, and her will to give whole heartedly. She gave awesome advice and was always a great listener. She would tell you anytime of the day, “The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want.” Her Beautiful Soul has left a void in the life of all her family and friends. Berlinda was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence and John A. Lockhart and sister, Patricia Waltower.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, a loving husband of Fifty-Two years, Henry Stevens Jr. (Steve); two children, Karmenlita Stevens of Augusta, Ga, and Damien (Telena) Stevens of Greenbrier, Tn.; Six grandchildren- Donarius, Donalvon, Denquarius, Tiara (Dee), Telea and Tenea. Twelve Great grandchildren- Damarion, Maliyah, Messiah, Demetrius, Asahd, Grayson, LayDen, Laylah, Lohgan, Tamia, Tia and Tiajah; Three sisters- Rev. Jeanette Hawkins of Augusta Ga, Tijuana (James) Stanley and Katherine Lockhart both of Miami Fl.; One Brother, Larry Lockhart of Miami Fl.; Sister-in-law, Gertrude Lockhart and Brother-in-law, Rev. Eugene Waltower, both of Augusta, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved with all of her heart. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a cherished friend of over 40 years, Mrs. Reasie Hollis, and a wonderful neighbor that always made sure there was not a “need”, Ms. Shelia Riley.

The family will host a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11:00AM at Antioch Baptist Church, 1454 Florence Street, Augusta, GA. Please contact the family for any additional information.
