Mrs. Geneva Curry Lassiter
January 22, 2026
On Thursday, January 22, 2026, Mrs. Geneva Curry Lassiter, age 94, peacefully entered into eternal rest and went home to be with the Lord.
Mrs. Lassiter was born to Mary Curry on October 31, 1931, in Jeffersonville, Georgia. From the beginning of her life’s journey, she was known for her deep faith, spirited determination, and generous heart—qualities that shaped her character and defined the way she lived and loved.
Mrs. Lassiter received her education in Macon, Georgia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While in Pennsylvania she met the love of her life, Mr. Edgar Wallace Lassiter. On August 29, 1953, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Geneva and Edgar united in holy matrimony. Their marriage was one of love and partnership. During their years together, they traveled extensively while Mr. Lassiter served in the United States Army, living in Germany, California, and several other locations. Together, they built a life grounded in service and eternal love. Mr. Lassiter preceded her in death in 1994.
A devoted member of Trinity Christian Methodist Episcopal (C.M.E.) Church for more than six decades, Mrs. Lassiter faithfully served God and her church family with unwavering devotion. She held numerous leadership and service roles throughout the years, including serving as: the lay leader and the first vice president of the Lay Council, president of the Buds of Promise, treasurer of the Stewardess Board, and as a dedicated member of both the Senior Choir and the Voices of Trinity. Her tireless commitment to ministry and service earned her the respect and admiration of all who knew her. In recognition of her faithful work, she was honored as Lay Person of the Year for Trinity C.M.E. Church and the Augusta-Thomson District and received an Outstanding Leadership for Faithful Service Award.
While she was widely known for her service within the church, Mrs. Lassiter was especially cherished for her ministry of compassion. She enjoyed visiting the sick, caring for those in need, and sharing her love through cooking and baking. Her famous cakes, cobblers, and brownies were a staple at church gatherings and family celebrations. Her kitchen became a place of comfort, fellowship, and laughter. Through these simple acts of kindness, she touched countless lives and made everyone feel welcomed and loved.
Mrs. Lassiter also devoted many years of service to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School, in Augusta, where she worked as lunchroom supervisor until her retirement in 1995. In this role, she nurtured generations of children, offering not only meals but also encouragement and a warm smile that made every child feel special.
Mrs. Lassiter leaves a legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit, strong convictions, servant’s heart, and the deep love she had for her family, friends, church, and community. Her life stands as a beautiful testimony of what it means to walk with God and to serve others wholeheartedly.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her beloved daughter, Ms. Mellie Briggs of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Mr. Cordell (Myra) A. Briggs II of Upper Marlboro, MD; and Dr. Medell (John) Briggs-Malonson of Redondo Beach, CA; great-grandchildren Ymani Briggs, Isaiah Malonson, Xavier Malonson, and Charleigh Briggs; sisters, Ms. Martha Booze and Ms. Ruthy Mae Exon; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren, along with her devoted church family and many dear friends.
We rejoice in knowing that she has heard the Master say:
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” --Matthew 25:23
