MRS. MARIE DICKERSON WRIGHT was born on March 23, 1923 to the late Marion Dickerson Sr. and Gertrude Dickerson in McBean, Georgia. Marie was the 10th child of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jordon Wright of 44 years. Marie was baptized at an early age at Spirit Creek Baptist Church, Augusta, GA. Later in life she joined Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Charles Spencer Hamilton.
Accordingly during her 65 years of membership, she faithfully served as a member of the Sanctuary Choir, a Deaconess, a Mother of the Church and various other ministries. Marie was also a lifelong member of the New Era Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc.
Marie was educated in the Richmond County School system. She worked as a secretary at Pilgrim Health & Life Insurance Company, Augusta, GA for 40+ years. Marie also worked diligently with her hands; gardening, sewing and cooking delicious meals for her family and friends which were some of her favorite things to do. Marie lived her life with enthusiasm and exuberance. She moved through life with grace and charisma with an amazing capacity to love and give to others. She was known for her exquisite taste; her suits, hats, shoes and jewelry always made a statement. She never left a room until she shared a hug and a smile.
Loving memories will be cherished by her son, Elias Burton Jr. (Debbie), Augusta, GA; stepdaughters, Rev Darlene Cooley (Matthew), Harrisburg, PA; Marilyn Taylor (Greg), Harrisburg, PA; A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members & friends.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Memorial Gardens, 3666 Deans Bridge Road, Hephzibah, Georgia 30815. Reverend Dr. Charles E. Goodman, Jr., eulogist.
