Augusta, Georgia-Mr. Clarence Thomas Bentley entered into rest Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Hospital Uptown Division.
Clarence Thomas (Sonny) Bentley was born in Augusta, Georgia, on August 19, 1944. He attended public schools in Augusta before moving to Hamden, Connecticut, in 1961, where he finished High School. At 18, he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. Later during the Vietnam War, he was drafted by the United States Army, served two years, and was honorably discharged. For more than 20 years, he worked as a Caddie for the Professional Golf Association (PGA), where he traveled extensively throughout the United States. In addition to his exceptional skills in golf and baseball, his favorite sport was basketball. After years of travel across the United States, he was pleased to return to his home in Augusta.
In addition to his parents, Ruby Key Bentley and John Clarence Bentley, he was preceded in death by his brother Milford (Ronnie)Bentley.
Clarence is survived by two sons, Kevin Bentley (Angela) of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Patrice Bentley of Snellville, GA; his grandson Kaleb Bentley, former wife Deloris Bentley of Milledgeville, GA; five sisters, Bess Daniels of Augusta, GA; Ruth Jones (Claude) of Augusta, GA, Gwendolyn Clayborne (David) of Augusta, GA, Patricia Steele (Lavont) of Waynesboro, GA, Esther Bentley of Waynesboro, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Keys Grove Baptist Church, 325 Key Road, Keysville, Georgia.
