Mr. Roy W. Mathis, Sr. entered into rest Monday, October 25, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital.
Roy William Mathis Sr. was born in Augusta, Georgia to the late Warren Mathis and Roberta Cook Mathis on February 5, 1941. He was a loving husband, father, papa and the family matriarch.
Roy graduated from Lucy C. Laney. He then met and married the love of his life Helen Weaver, through that union two children were born. Roy began working at Medical College of Georgia as an Executive Supervisor in the housekeeping department. He retired after 37 devoted years of service in mid 2000. He was a faithful member of Hammond Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Bobby Hankerson until his health declined.
Roy was the epitome of a man. He loved his wife, children and most of all his two beautiful granddaughters Parris and Londyn. He was a great brother to his siblings and even more amazing uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. To know Roy is to love him, his spirit will forever live on in all of the lives he has touched.
On October 25, 2021, Roy made his peaceful transition and at the gates of Heaven he was reunited with his loving parents; brothers, Warren, Bobby, George and Joe; and sister Sadie.
Roy is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Helen Mathis; son Roy Mathis Jr of Augusta, Georgia; daughter, Angela (Roberto) Wynn of Hephzibah, Georgia; two grandchildren, Parris A. Mathis and Londyn K. Mathis, both of Augusta, Georgia; siblings, Elouise Sturgis, of Augusta, Georgia; Henry (Denise) Mathis and Dealea Gwaltney-White, both of New York. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 2:00PM at Fielding Spring Church Cemetery, 4675 Mike Padgett Hwy, Augusta, GA.
