The Life and Times Of Elizabeth Veronica Busby Wilson On June 27th, the Lord saw fit to bless the world with the presence of a beautiful baby girl who would grow into a productive member of our society. The union of the late Herrington Busby, Sr. and Carrie Bell McCrady Busby was blessed with their youngest child - Elizabeth Veronica Busby Wilson. She accepted the Lord Jesus at an early age and was baptized and became a member of the Near River Baptist Church. She was educated in the schools of Allendale County, South Carolina. Elizabeth or “Lizzie” as she is fondly referred to by many was a scholarly student. She graduated valedictorian of her high school class. Education being paramount in her life, she furthered her education at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree with honors in Home Economics with a minor in the Natural Sciences. Her teaching career began in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She later returned to her alma mater to pursue her Master of Arts Degree in Education. She completed her program of study and graduated in 1976. In 1955, she was joined in holy matrimony to Coleston Wilson (who preceded her in death in 2001), and moved to Augusta, Georgia. With her love for children, she continued her teaching career at Jefferson High School in Bath, South Carolina. With a desire to work closer to home, she secured employment with the Richmond County Board of Education. She taught Home Economics at the then A. R. Johnson Junior High School until the Board transferred teachers within the county. Tubman Junior High School would remain her working “home” until she retired in 1986 after 30 years of touching the lives of the students she taught. She is a lifetime member of the Retired Teachers Association. In 1963, she joined the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. She remained a faithful and loyal member until her health began to fail. She was affiliated with several organizations within the church. These organizations include the Calvary Progressive Association Ministry, the June Birth Month Ministry, the Deaconess Ministry, and the Library Ministry. She has served these organizations in leadership positions over the years. Again, her love for teaching extended to her church. She has been a Church School Junior Class teacher for over 50 years. During these years, she has received certificates and plaques for “Mother of the Year”, “Teacher of the Month” and appreciation for dedicated service to the Church School. Finally, she was a loving, nurturing, and precious, mother of two children, Jacquelyn Colette and Reginald Bernard Wilson. She was the godmother of Jordan Fields, Shakeitrice Johnson, and Taylor Mitchell. She was called “mom” by many. She has taught her children and others by word, deed, and example. When children have a godly mother, the Bible says, “Her children rise up, and call her blessed . . .” She lived by the motto, “If I can help somebody as I pass this way, then my living will not be in vain.” She has come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted and loving daughter, Jacquelyn Wilson of Augusta, GA, a loving son Reginald (Heather) Wilson of Jacksonville, FL, a brother, Booker T. (Ranie) Busby of Bratenahl, OH, and a granddaughter Veronica “Roni” Ellen Wilson of Jacksonville, FL, brother-in-law, Abraham Wilson of New Jersey and a sister-in-law, Floria Scott of New York. Also, cherishing her memory is a host of nieces and nephews, and friends. To God be the glory for the great things he has done!!

W. H. Mays Mortuary, 1221 James Brown Boulevard, Augusta, Georgia 30901 (706)722-6401.
