Mrs. Myriam Burns Van Buren
Augusta, GA—Private graveside services for Mrs. Myriam Burns Van Buren, who entered into rest March 25, 2020 will be conducted Friday, April 03, 2020 in Mount Olive Gardens at 12:00 Noon. The Reverends Billy J. Alford and Tommie Benjamin are officiating. On September 19, 1943, Myriam brought joy to her family as the second child of parents Professor Isaiah and Pearl H. Burns. Raised in Augusta, GA, her spiritual training was received at Spring Hill Baptist Church where she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. Mrs. Van Buren enjoyed giving her time and resources to others at the delight of her spirit and worked diligently in supporting her community through outreach activities at churches, community centers, and schools. She had an extremely generous nature. She later joined Trinity CME Church and finally Saint Alban's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Van Buren was a faithful member of St. Alban's and a Lay Reader where she read the Holy Scripture in Church each third Sunday in worship. She was a dedicated Church School teacher.
On July 7, 2007, after many years of companionship, Myriam and Ronald Van Buren (Van) were joined in Holy matrimony. They were together for a total of 30 years. Myriam professed her love of God as she married the love of her life, Ronald. They were committed to serve God in Spirit and in Truth as Church leaders. She was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School and Paine College. Myriam was known as an excellent teacher in the Richmond County School System, Augusta, GA for thirty-eight years and finalized her Spiritual education with a Certificate in Theology from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA.
Mrs. Van Buren leaves a cherished legacy to her loving and devoted husband Ronald Van Buren; sisters LaVetta (Roy) Jones, Augusta, GA; Barbara Burns Hall, College Park, GA; brother Isaiah Carroll (Patricia) Burns, Philadelphia, PA; father-in-law, James H. Van Buren, North Little Rock AS; mother-in-law, Vallie M. Van Buren, sister-in-law, Arletta R. Van Buren, Fulton, MS; aunt, Eliza H. Cave, Bath, SC; nieces Stephanie (Rodney) Cross, Felicia (Kamau) Nickerson Atlanta, GA; nephews Floyd Jerrod Hall, College Park, GA; Isaiah Carroll Burns II, Washington, DC.; grandnephews, Axum and Seku Nickerson; and grandnieces Cristina and Jordan Cross. Myriam Burns Van Buren lives on in the hearts and memories of a host of other relatives and friends. Memorials may be given in the memory of Mrs. Myriam Van Buren to Saint Alban's Episcopal Church, 2321 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA 30906.
