Obituary For Alice Elizabeth Gatewood

Alice Elizabeth Gatewood, 93 of Sunset, passed away on Sunday, May 4th, 2025.

Graveside services will take place at 12 noon, on Friday, May 9th, with Chaplain Phillip Weitner officiating.

Alice was born on November 17, 1931, she was the oldest of 9 children born to parents, Robert and Lucille McRee in Little Rock, Arkansas. From a typical Depression Era large family, as a schoolgirl, she with her siblings and parents moved to numerous towns in the big state of Texas for employment; in so doing she embodied the strong ethics of faith, love, hard work, and the spreading of good will. Always faithfully believing that tomorrow will be a better day and if your burden of fear or worry becomes too heavy, give them to God for He will carry them for you. She was married to Donovan D. Gatewood on June 26, 1950, in Houston, Texas with loving devotion, until his death on December 7, 2002.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Virginia Johnson; and brothers Robert, Richard, Benny, and Jimmy.

Alice is survived by her loving children, Donovan Gatewood Jr, Nola Anne Summerhill and her husband Jimmy, Jon Gatewood and his wife Jackie, and Lee Gatewood and his wife Rosa; precious grandchildren, Terry Summerhill and Julie, Shawn Summerhill and Lindsay, Aaron Summerhill and Monica, Jason Gatewood and Jesslyn, Amy Howard and William, Tracey Gatweood and Kari, Kristen Edwards and Carl, Brandie, Tahwana, Emily, Anna, Donovan Gatewood III, Allyssa Lane and Sean; 22 adorable great-grandchildren, Katie, Ava, Mason, Ashton, Reid, Jon Daniel, Jennifer, Kathryn, Joshua, Maddie, Emma, Tracey Jr, Maddy, Marly, Jack, Chip, Knox, Kennedy Rose, Hudson, Roan, Sophia, Scarlet; one great great cute Norwegian grandson named Blue; and her brothers, Bill, Tommy, and Larkin.
