Obituary For Calvin "Gene" DeMoss

Calvin Gene DeMoss, known to family and friends simply as “Gene”, age 94, of Sunset, TX passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the morning of Saturday, January 17th, 2026.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22nd, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie, with Tom Hale officiating.

Burial will follow at Ringgold Cemetery in Ringgold, TX.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m., on Wednesday, January 21st, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie, TX.

Gene was born on November 8, 1931, in Forestburg, Texas, to Clyde DeMoss (1905–1978) and Nora Mae Schrib DeMoss (1908–1969). One of eleven children, Gene grew up strong-willed, independent, and full of character—traits that defined him throughout his life.

Gene proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. A fighter by nature and a defender at heart, his military service reflected the courage, grit, and loyalty he carried with him long after his time in uniform.

He spent his working years as a truck driver and later in quality control at a mobile home manufacturing plant, where he was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability.

Gene was a singer and guitarist, a gifted storyteller, a fighter and defender, and a man with a mischievous spirit—a troublemaker in the best sense of the word. He brought music, laughter, strength, and unforgettable stories into every room he entered, and he was fiercely protective of the people he loved.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Nora Mae DeMoss, and his siblings Bea Pitchford, Wade DeMoss, Melton DeMoss, and Melvin DeMoss.

Gene shared 42 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lynn DeMoss, who survives him. He was a devoted husband and a loving father to his daughters and sons-in-law: Rhonda and Tom Hale; Cynthia DeMoss; Misty DeMoss; Shannon and Ross Hager; and Tiffany and Tim Eaton. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and a growing number of great-grandchildren, all of whom were a tremendous source of pride and joy.

Gene’s legacy lives on in the songs he sang, the stories he told, the battles he stood up for, and the family who carries his strength, spirit, and fire forward.

Arrangements entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home of Bowie, Texas.
