Connie Rue Thomas, 67 of Bowie, TX, passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2023, in Bowie, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, April 16th, at Southside Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Post Oak Cemetery in Post Oak, TX.

The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Saturday, April 15th, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.

Connie was born in Bowie on October 20, 1955, to Jesse Wayne & Minnie Lou Geer. She was the youngest of three sisters who were all proud Bowie Jackrabbit mascots. She graduated from Bowie High School in 1974. Connie attended Draughon’s Business School and later married Nelson Thomas on May 28, 1976. They built their life together in Bowie raising three children and creating countless memories. They grew from being Mom and Dad to eventually being Mops and Pops. She spent decades as a photographer shooting weddings, seniors, sports, and nature.

Connie lived and loved big. She was a true original. She lived life to the fullest in every possible way with an unmatched zest and passion for her family and celebrating life. She had a heart the size of Texas and shared it with everyone she met. She was Auntie Connie beloved by so many. She had an infectious way of always spreading joy wherever she went. The love Connie shared in her lifetime will create ripples for years to come throughout our community and afar.

She loved traveling with Nelson anywhere from Post Oak to Alaska and looked forward to her annual trips to Red River, NM and Galveston. She loved being Mops to her grandkids. She loved gardening, decorating for the holidays, reading, and playing the piano. Connie loved her hometown, the community, and was the Bowie Jackrabbits’ biggest fan. She created an experience around every holiday and always found a way to gather her immediate and extended family to create new memories. Connie knew how to make someone feel special, supported, and she never met a stranger.

Connie had profound respect for her mom’s career in teaching and continued her legacy through the annual Minnie Lou Geer Scholarship Fund. She was proud to be a part of a family of educators and in her own way was a teacher of life, positively influencing countless people.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Samuel Shannon Campsey and Georgia Roth, Willie and Vida Geer, parents, Jesse Wayne Geer and Minnie Lou Geer, and sister, Deborah Harris.

Connie is survived by her husband, Nelson Thomas of Bowie; three children Jennifer Glover and husband, Lyal Glover of Northlake, Wes Thomas and wife, Linda Thomas of Denton, and Chase Thomas and wife, Amber Thomas of Bowie; five grandchildren; Kingston Thomas, Ian Thomas, Campsey Thomas, Jax Thomas, and Crue Thomas, one sister; Martha Vincent of Bowie, ten nieces and nephews; Wayne Leek and wife Patty Leek of Brock, Valarie Gill and husband Darren Gill of Bowie, Marcus Vincent and wife Jennifer Vincent of Huntsville, Alabama, Melissa Vincent of Gosford, Australia, Michelle Vincent of Bowie, TaShawna Nash and husband Darron Nash of Seattle, Aubrey Lehotta and husband Justin Lehotta, Ryley Thomas and wife Jessica Thomas, Madisen Ricoy and husband Omelino Ricoy, and Jolie Thomas; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

Nelson, I'm so sorry for your loss. When I would run into Connie around town she always greeted with big hugs and asked about Mom,Wanda Davis and the quilting ladies. Our moms went to school together at Post Oak and in later years quilted together at Post Oak. One time as y'all were going to or from the deer lease and rather than just waving and driving by y'all stopped and cut up the tree that had fallen across Mom's driveway. You'll never know how much she appreciated your thoughtfulness and manual labor. Please know I will keep you and your family in my prayers Sheila Schindler

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Connie. She touched the lives of so many students taking pictures for athletics and school functions. She was a true Jackrabbit. Laverne and Jerry Richardson

Oh Connie, such a beautiful woman. I saw the support and friendship that gave my sister and adored it. I'll never forget the time my sister was in labor with her twins and started to crash. You found me outside having a breakdown and gave me a big hug then ran inside to my sisters bedside. Thank you for loving her the way you did. Heaven definitely gained a beautiful soul. Mike, Lindsay and Shynia Roberts

I'm speechless at the loss of this beautiful woman. Little did I know, that when we met 22 years ago, we would become the best of friends...sisters at heart. Connie was with me, 18 years ago, at the birth of Jake and Emily and had just taken their senior photos. They are so blessed to have called her Auntie Connie and be considered part of her family. I will miss our long talks, secrets, triumps, and adventures together. I may have lost my bestie but Heaven has gained an angel. Until we meet again, you will be my guardian angel and the pie of my eye. We all love and miss you! Lori, Nick, Jake, and Emily

I'm lacking words to express how much I am missing my cousin Connie. She was blessed with such a vibrant personality that spread love and warmth to all she interacted with. Fortunately I have years of special memories of time spent with her that I cherish until I will meet her again at the campfire in Heaven where she is now! I love you, Connie Rue.

Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
