Obituary For Gary Don Ogburn

With deep love and remembrance, we announce the passing of Gary Don Ogburn, of Sunset, TX who departed this life on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Medical City Decatur Hospital, at the age of 76.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on July 17, 2025, at the White Family Funeral Home, 1418 TX-59, Bowie, TX 76230. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by services at 11:00 AM with full military honors to recognize his faithful service to this nation. In keeping with Gary’s patriotic spirit, the family invites guests to wear red, white, and blue in tribute to the values he held dear.

Gary’s final resting place will be DFW National Cemetery, a fitting honor for a man who cherished his country with unwavering devotion.

Gary was born on August 16, 1948, to Luther Calveston Ogburn and LaDessa Malvina(Bohrer) Ogburn. He spent 21 years and 11 months serving his country in the United States Air Force. Gary served as a navigator for the KC-135 refueler, and civil engineer. Once he retired, he moved into facility management, working for the Houston Police Department, Houston Public Libraries, and United Way before retiring completely and moving to Fort Worth to be near his daughters and their families. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, Bass Anglers, Rocky Mountain Foundation, and the Air Force Association.

Gary had a dry wit, and until you really knew him, you couldn’t be sure if he was joking. An avid hunter, a true patriot, and a lover of life’s simple pleasures, he embraced the open road, savored meals at tucked-away country restaurants, and found peace living in the country surrounded by nature. His admiration for Harleys, classic cars, and hotrods reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Luther and LaDessa Ogburn.

Gary legacy lives on through his daughters, Lynn Weber and husband Paul, and Amy Shamburger and husband John; grandchildren Austin Weber and wife Sarah, Kailey Little and husband Matt, Kaitlyn Shamburger, and Anthony Shamburger; and great-granddaughter Kennedy Weber; and his brother Wayne Ogburn and wife Cherry, who shared many meaningful moments and memories over the years. All of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
