Obituary For Helen Ruth Chancellor

Helen Ruth (Thompson) Chancellor (92) was born on June 8, 1934, in Bowie, Texas, and passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026, with her daughter, Carrie, and granddaughter, Taylor, by her side.

Helen attended Bowie High School where she was a member of the band and graduated in 1951. After graduating high school, she worked at the Montague County Clerk’s Office before marrying Charles Chancellor in August of 1954. Once married they moved to Dallas and had three children (Cathy, Michael, and Carrie). She enjoyed traveling while making memories with family and friends. She retired in 1997 from Oncor Company and enjoyed spending time with her new granddaughter born in November of that year.

She attended church throughout her life. Helen always said that her faith in God got her through the loss of her first child, Cathy, in 1977 and her son, Michael, in 2015.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Carrie, and granddaughter Taylor as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Jackson Taylor Thompson, Sr. and Esta Pearl Byford Thompson, along with her siblings Donna Merle Thompson, Phillis Scott, Ileta Jo Roberts, Mary Lou Miller, JT Thompson, Jr., and Joyce Ann Monroe.

Visitation will be at White Funeral Home in Bowie, TX on July 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with the service following at 12:00 p.m. Graveside will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
