Obituary For Jan Karen Schlichenmaier Reid

Jan Karen Schlichenmaier Reid, 68 of Bowie, Texas went to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 26th, 2025.

Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1st, at the First Christian Church in Bowie.

Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 31st at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.

Jan was born on October 24,1957 in San Antonio, Texas and was the daughter of Raymond and Ida Pearl Schlichenmaier.

Jan graduated from Cypress-Fairbanks high school in 1975. Upon graduating early, she attended college at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville to pursue her studies in art. Those who may have known Jan knew that the arts were one of her greatest passions in life. She was best known for her hand sculpted crosses which were truly one of kind. Jan was able to touch so many lives through her crosses which all had a unique name of their own. Jan was also an accomplished acrylic painter and had received numerous awards for her work both nationally and internationally. Throughout the years she had various collectors of her works across the United States.

Jan also enjoyed her livelihood as an insurance agent for 29 years having begun her career in 1981 for Combined American Insurance Company and working until 1984. She was then self-employed for three years and then pursued her remaining career 22 years with American National Insurance Company. For all the years in her career she met so many wonderful people and made a huge amount of friends. She was so very blessed by her profession. Working countless hours and knocking on no telling how many doors. Perhaps, one of those may have been yours.

Jan will always be remembered for her love of knowing her Lord, her vivacious spunk for living life to the fullest, her creativeness, her compassionate heart, her contagious smile and laughter, often saying and not realizing she had made a comment with a “pun”. Jan loved music, her best girlfriends she would call to catch up with nature and animals, in particular her love of her labradors.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents Raymond Donald and Ida Pearl Matney Schlichenmaier and cousin Tom Schlichenmaier.

Jan is survived by her two brothers Carl Schlichenmaier and Roger Schlichenmaier of Bowie, Texas, her niece Katie Beth Ruffino and Jonathan Sheedy, her great niece Bella Ruffino of Bryan, Texas, cousins John and Cindy Schlichenmaier, Kathy Schlichenmaier, and Sue Schlichenmaier Wilson and Garrett Wilson.
