JoAnn (Joby) Johnson, 84, left this earth and entered Heaven on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Visitation will be at Metrocrest Funeral Home from 10-12pmThursday, April 16th in Carrollton, Texas.
Graveside service will follow at 2:00pm at Restland Cemetery in Dallas.
Joby was born February 25, 1942 in Amory, Mississippi to Joseph and Mildred (Wright) Smith. She graduated from Amory High School and then Mississippi University for Women with a Bachelor of Education. She taught school in West Palm Beach, Florida then worked as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines out of New Orleans. There she met and married Doug Johnson on July 24, 1971. Her mother’s friends were appalled that she would marry a “Yankee”! Their daughter was born the next yearin New Orleans and then they moved to Carrollton, Texas in 1974 where their son was born. After raising their children, they moved to Frisco to be near grandchildren.
Joby loved the Lord, her family, her country, and her dogs. She was a strong woman and fierce advocate for her beliefs. She was always a Mississippi girl at heart and loved going “home”. She volunteered for animal rescue organizations, served as a greeter at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, was a member of the Marathon Sunday School Class and belonged to the Gideon Auxiliary. She always had a Gideon Testament Bible to offer staff when she was a patient in the hospital.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mildred Smith; and her sister, Diny Patterson.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Doug Johnson; daughter, Jennifer White and husband, Coy; son, Will Johnson and wife, Angela; grandchildren, Lauren Andrews and husband, Lane, Jillian Johnson, Chase White, Corbyn White, Kennedy Johnson, and four great-grandchildren.
We are thankful to all who sent cards, meals, prayers and words of encouragement to her. We are thankful to the staff at Lifted Hospice, TJ & Claire’s Helping Hands, her favorite Dr. Sammi, and our devoted caregiver, Kyla. God brought her to Texas for just a time as this!
Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed in strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future.”
